style="margin: 5% auto;" />
(Concluded from Part 4)

Okay, now a lot of this is resonance. What we don’t know is now much of this is being originated domestically? How much of it is a second or third order harmonic effect? And what the real and what the virtual parameters are actually engendering? But these are some of the Soviet frequencies.

I have a little paper here. If we can find a Xerox machine, we can paper you guys. But meanwhile, from the standard textbook of physics, if we look at the E wave as being standard propagation wave form — as being parallel with this screen — the B wave or H wave, the magnetic vector, is at right angles to this and has to accompany it.

WHY DID GOD DESIGN US THIS WAY?

When you strip off the E wave by shielding, by natural attenuation, you still have that H wave left; and that is the one against which you cannot shield. It goes right through you, everything else, and can trip certain neurons in your head. I don’t know why God designed us this way but here’s something else to worry about. 150 years ago it was smallpox, diphtheria and Indians. I guess some of you turkeys are as old as I am and remember when we were trying to dig fallout shelters in our backyards. It’s always something, but this is the one that appears to be the most insidious. This report is from a previously classified document done by Dr. Wartz and Dr. Erkins, of Garret Air Research. for the Central Intelligence Agency showing the “windows” that could be the stimulus for ESP, paranormal, Russian Psychotronic research. Does that look familiar? If you move that down about two Hertz, you ain’t got a psychic, you got an epileptic. Some of the propagation paths of the various nodes. The whole earth Ionosphere cavity rings like a bell. At certain frequencies you can put a little energy in here and under the same conditions get the same amount, or even a little more out, somewhere else.

Tesla was right. A little Soviet love letter, U.S. Patent, Nov. 20, 1973, Apparatus For the Treatment of Neuropsychic and Somatic Diseases with Heat, Light, Sound and Electromagnetic Radiation — a trial balloon to see how much we knew about what they were doing. It’s #3773049, and among all these words they hid their little gift, which you’ll come across when you read the whole patent. We have developed frequency counters by taking standard units and pulling a times-one hundred multiplier so we could see frequencies down to a hundredth of one Hertz. We couldn’t find anything that we could carry. The big Hewlett-Packard weighs — what? — 20 pounds, plus a cost of $13,000. So we had to build the instrumentations systems for mapping these things almost from scratch. We published the circuit diagrams for ail of these things except the psycho-active frequencies and apparatus. We were requested to delete this by a chap who visited us and said, “You’d better take the apparatus apart and put one piece of it one place and one in another and go back and burn the paper work you have on it because terrorist groups could build a little box like this and paralyze us.”

DOWN TO THE HUNDREDTH DECIMAL

[Riley Crabb: "So, what's new about registering human molecular vibrations down to the hundredth decimal place? Dr. Albert Abrams, grandfather of Radionics, was doing it at his clinic in San Francisco in the 1920s! Recently, one of the later models of the Abrams Oscilloclast was brought to our headquarters here in Vista California. On the front of it was a row of Ten Buttons. Each one of them represented a group of diseases whose vibratory rate is in the 43 megacycle range. That's below Channel 2 on your TV set, 54 megacycles. and the wavelength is about 71/2 meters, crest to crest." (Note these vibratory rates are for informational purposes only; No Healing or Beneficial Effect please!]

Button

Megacycles

Covers

Zero

43,000

Cataracts, Adhesions, Radium Burns, X-Ray Burns

One

43,245

Malaria, Staph, Mumps, etc.

Two

43,296

Chicken Pox, Hay Fever, Strep, Impetigo, Typhus, etc.

Three

43,322

Epilepsy, General Toxemia, Psora, Lues (Syphilis), etc.

Four

43,338

Arteriosclerosis, Asthma, Goiter, Catarrh, etc.

Five

43,346

Arthritis, Hay Fever, Influenza, Tuberculosis, Undulant Fever

Six

43,350

Fermentation, Carcinoma (Cancer), Eczema, etc.

Seven

43,354

Acute Inflammation, Pneumonia, etc.

Eight

43,354 (same as Seven)

Cataracts, Infantile Paralysis, Pyorrhea

Nine

43,356

(no classification under this number).

Ten

43,357

Chronic Inflammation, Chronic pain, Radium Burns, etc.

[The full listing of the rates and description and schematics of the Abrams Oscilloclast are in BSRF No 33C, "The Electronic Reactions of Dr Abrams".]

When Riley Crabb read these rates off to a visiting scientist here a couple of years ago, he suggested that Abrams had been working with the higher harmonic of the disease, and that the actual base rate was much lower on the scale of vibration. Now I suspect that he was engaged in highly secret ELF wave research, an area of vibrations unknown and unsuspected at the time Abrams was developing the basis for Radionics or Psychotronics or Bioenergetics, as the Russians call it.

ELF WAVE COUNTER MEASURES

Now what’s happening about this? Well, Dr. Ludwig of Germany developed these little devices. Andy smuggled a couple of these into Los Angeles last October (Dr. L.O. Anderson, Anderson Research Foundation, 2942 Francis Ave., Los Angeles, Cal. 90005, phone (213) 387-9164] and I did an engineering analysis on them. I’m going to take the tape out of the cassette for a second and I’m going to put this on play and activate this on play and we’re going to activate this little box. It only has a range of about a meter. Just enough to envelop the head and vital organs if one wears it on the upper part of the body.

(He turns the Ludwig Vitasette on and the audience hears the “Woodpecker” rat-a-tat-tat.)

THE LUDWIG RELAXATION OSCILLATOR (OR MAGNETIC PACER)

Sound familiar? Sound like something we’ve heard from Russia? Now, I’m going to change its frequency a little bit (and the rat-a-tat speeds up). We understand that about 900 of these have been built, and some of them are in the hands of people who have to wear them, in case of a hit. What they are basically is a little relaxation oscillator, driving a coil around a Numetal core. The Numetal has a permeability of over 3000. As the B field collapses, it puts out a tremendous spike of magnetic H wave energy which, for this demonstration, we just picked up on the tape head of this recorder; because the tape head, as you know, will respond to magnetic signals that are on the ferrite in the tape.

“What is the device for?”

That device is worn by people who want a beneficial frequency close to them. Fortunately, we live in a universe that works by the Inverse Square Law. If you don’t like the Rock band that’s putting out 2000 watts of audio on the stage, you can take a $2 transistor radio, tune it to another radio station, hold it up against your ear and it will drown out the Rock band. Okay? A field of beneficial frequencies which is close to you will override the effect of the firing or desynchronization of the neurons that can be entrained by a field that, in this case, is 7000 miles away. All right? Apparently — certain neurons in the cerebral cortex act as frequency modulating discriminators. Any of you guys who have played around with radio know that you have a crystal set, and you hear several stations simultaneously, you get a garble. They are all overlapped. You can’t sort ‘em out; but the frequency modulation discriminator will latch onto the highest amplitude signal in the environment, override the others, and you’ll hear that. If you are listening to Police Radio and a loud station comes in, overriding the other, you’ll get one or the other. There’s very little crosstalk.

So what this thing does basically is that it puts out a little magnetic H wave field with a spike wave which we don’t like. We like to work with a different wave form that I don’t want to talk about. But this thing is apparently mildly psychoactive, but not nearly as psychoactive as the ones they used for the tests in Los Angeles, the ones at the United Nations, and Ossining, New York.

(An audience member asks:) “Is that spike wave more effective than a sine or square?”

It should be because Delta E over Delta C means that you are inducing stronger current in the conductor nearby, and there are some other side effects which we don’t like. It’s rather abrasive. The other device that’s in the picture (and hopefully I brought it) is disguised as a wee pocket flashlight — and it actually works! It has a little nickel-cadmium rechargeable battery. It is frequency programmable on the back.

“So what you are saying is that the West Germans are aware of this (ELF wave attacks from Russia) and are selling these?” (asked the same person)

They are not selling them, exactly, they are kind of giving them away to people that have a need for them and the answer to your question is. Yes. Now, what I’d like to point out to you is that in this very narrow frequency spectrum corresponding to the Alpha-Theta border of brain waves, you can change the excitation frequency by a fraction of a Hertz, and have an entirely different reaction. Now this was a big surprise. This is the thing that was not anticipated any more than the little germs were before Von Leeuwenhoek and Pasteur.

YOU ARE EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO COHERENT FREQUENCIES

One reason I feel that this effect has been missed by other researchers who were working with gross frequency inputs is that they were not defining their frequencies down to a hundredth of a Hertz. Now there’s a tremendous amount of a supportive evidence in the neuro-physiological literature that certain molecules in our brain, with dielectric constants of over 140,000 and other inductive capacitor parameters, act as longchain, semi-liquid crystal dipoles that are extremely sensitive to coherent frequencies. Now coherent means to find out that they are a little bit further than most of the researchers have investigated. Where I think I have done original work is in building systems that can go out to that second, third and fourth decimal place, taking them to the coffee shop, testing them on my own head and seeing what they do empirically, and kind of sounding the alarm on what we are now experiencing. “Again, some of the Soviet frequencies. We’ll take a break and see if we can get some of these in real time on the radio right now.

(Apparently he gets a signal from the program director.)

Oh, I guess our vote has been cancelled.

Okay, there are a couple of more goodies on here but I’m going to thank you fellows, I’m going to conclude it at this and take a break. If there are any questions we’ll handle them later. Thank you for listening.

(A burst of applause ends the tape.)

CLIPS, QUOTES & COMMENTS

REINTRODUCING THE NATURAL ELF FIELD WITH A MAGNETIC PACER

The environment of the planet has become increasingly filled with man-nade electromagnetic waves in the last few decades. Most of the signals and power levels of the waves serve useful purposes for mankind and other living systems. Unfortunately, there also has been an increase in the power levels and numbers of signals which produce significant interference to the lawful and needed cononinications and navigational systems and the electronic products upon which our civilization has become so dependent. Many of the electronic products, such as computers and medical instrumentation systems, are extremely sensitive devices; yet compared to the delicate complex electric and chemical systems in human and animal brain and cardiac systems, these electronic products are relatively unresponsive. Electronic components of the central nervous system govern many behaviorlstic patterns in living systems.

THE ELF POLLUTION’S BIOLOGICAL EFFECT

The combination of high intensity ELF (Extreme Low Frequency) magnetic signals from both the U.S. and U.S.S.R. reported by the Planetary Association for Clean Energy over the last few issues of their “Newsletter”, may be significant enough to produce effects on humans as well as other living systems. Such effects, when they exist, would not normally be perceived by the individuals affected because the electrical activity of the central- nervous system would be altered.

Since human perception is a direct result of the chemical and electrical activity of the brain, one would not normally be able to determine whether perception has been altered. Special biological instrumentation systems can detect alterations of biological electrical activities, however, and thus provide a means by which one may monitor alterations in behavior patterns not otherwise observable. A simultaneous comparison of biological signal* with external magnetic and electric signals in the environment has shown that human electroencephalograms will occasionally lock on to some of these external signals) or otherwise show external modifications. Robert Beck and Andrija Puharich noted such correlations in the ELF range in 1977. William Bise found similar patterns in a research study with microwave frequencies in 1975 and verified the finding in the ELF range in 1978-79.

THE LUDWIG “VITASETTE”

Considerations of the implications of the above noted information led to the development of the magnetic pacer which is currently under test. Some earlier scientific studies have been conducted, notably by H.W. Ludwig of the Federal Republic of Germany, into the feasibility of developing devices pulsed within the ELF range which reportedly were beneficial for some people (especially that country’s diplomatic community), and sold under the trade name. The purpose of the Pacer unit is to reintroduce a natural field into a localized area- of about I meter radius. A 7.8 Hertz frequency lies near-the base of the range of natural frequencies known as the Schumann EarthIonosphere resonances. This 7.8 Hertz frequency has appeared to be able to pace the human heartbeat and affect the brain wave patterns of some people; it may be useful for inducing relaxed or sleep states. The higher frequencies may be useful in enhancing alert states in some persons. A pulsed south polar field has been seen to more easily affect males while a north polar field has been seen to more easily affect females. Placing a pacer next to the left chest, pulsing at 7.8 Hertz has shown that the heart will respond in some persons when at rest sitting quietly. Studies have shown that specific low level electric and magnetic field frequencies have profound effects on almost all biological systems on this planet. Therefore, it seems reasonable to assume that alterations of natural fields may produce alterations in biological system response; thus a method of reintroducing approximate natural field conditions may be able to produce what was once a natural biological system response. It should be clearly understood that this magnetic pacer is an experimental unit and that no claims whatsoever are made regarding specific effects which may, or may not, occur to individual experimenters. (William Bise.)

[A special text including parts list, notes and construction details of the Magnetic Pacer is available from the Planetary Association for Clean Energy, Inc., 100 Bronson Ave., Suite 1001, Ottawa, Ont, K1R6G8, Canada (613) 236-6265, suggested donation $2.50. And he had a tape recording of the signals to play for the Conference audience. Then from the screen, he reads the slide copy of a newspaper headline.]

“Mystery Radio Signals May Cause Illness.”

Hell! They were totally disrupting left and right (brain) hemisphere synchronization! People who had never had any tendency toward epilepsy, had no hereditary tendencies in this direction, were going slightly unconscious. According to Marshall Van Ert there was a two mile stretch of perfectly clear highway where there had been four deaths in about a week. People were simply driving their cars off the road or into a telephone pole, or into oncoming traffic. These are not apocryphal stories. These are a matter of public health records. It’s in Los Angeles now at about 25 micro gauss, and yes, it’s spreading. Now the reason that Eugene, Oregon, is particularly toxic is because there is an 800-mile long antenna terminating up there, called the Bonneville Power Authority transmission line. I guess some of you engineers have heard of this thing. They are generating current and sending it down to California as direct current, 340,000 volts. A DC line is an absolutely perfect, long wire antenna. In fact it would be highly attractive to people who couldn’t launch Project Sanguine to use that as our own transmission system, at 2.2 Hertz.

SAN FRANCISCO HIT BY MYSTERY RADIO WAVES. (“BEAMING”)

Whole citizen’s groups are getting up in arms, and they don’t know who to sue. (Laughter!)

Because of the zapping of America, they’re going out after the poor little communications towers and relay points for the telephone company and what have you. Now Marshall Manner and I got to be pretty good friends after some of this. This, incidentally, is Kay Prince, the lady in the bottom picture; and Marshall and I spent a lot of time up there running down some of these Fields. I can’t talk about some of this. Some of it I can. But there were only one or two people in that area that had equipment even capable of finding the spectrum distribution — and I’ll show you photographs of this. Bill Bise asked me in the lunch room if we have actual spectrum analysis stills of this Russian Woodpecker (the term selected by ham radio operators as being most descriptive of the audio characteristics of the ELF wave transmissions from Russia) and yes, we do. Now, Bill Bise is a highly qualified engineer but he has one thing that is terribly wrong with him. He’s exactly like I am. He’s interested in kook subjects. Therefore, his data has been pretty well thrown out by government officials who would normally accept it exactly as it is: the truth. So you’ve got to run under two different covers if you’re going to survive on this planet. If you hang out with kook groups like I do, you automatically don’t know what you’re talking about. The EPA man (Environmental Pollution Agency) came to town and started tracking the signal. The first thing these turkeys did was blame it on the 4.717 Megahertz signal which was coming out of the Dixon and Alameda Naval Station and — we’ll now have a concert here (and he plays a tape of the Woodpecker signal, a strongly accented beep beep, with a little burst of noise after several beeps.)

THE GOVERNMENT COVERUP

Okay, (he runs the burst again) that little burst of white noise that you hear after the beeps is carrying the information — on this particular channel — as some of us in the room know; and in order to quiet the population and make absolute fools out of themselves, Dr. Richard Tell, who is in charge of the Western Environmental Protection Agency team that works out of Nevada said, “Oh, all you guys are hearing is Dixon and, yeah, that sounds a little bit strange to people who don’t know about that transmitter.” The last time I talked to him he was just about as apologetic as Dr. Allen Hynek who, incidentally, in UFOlogy is a very good man — getting nicknamed Swamp Gas Hynek because he’d been misquoted about the Flying Saucer up there in Michigan. Anyway, the Turkeys came down here with a truck that had a hearing range of 10 Kilohertz, which was the lowest thing they had been using for submarine communication up until a few years ago. They were orders of magnitude off; so the signal you just heard was the Navy transmitter, at 4.717 Megahertz from Dixon, that they were going to blame the whole thing on. This was the tar baby, the scapegoat. It wouldn’t work. The next thing was that the power grid was identified as the source of the signal. Any high school kid can tell you that any long wire hanging out there in space can act as an antenna and pick up all the other signals that are being transmitted and re-radiate them. Okay? Even if our Navy is fooling around with long wires as a substitute for Sanguine antennas that had been ostensibly kicked out of several states. They traced the signal and it was strongest around power grids. So what else is new? These are some of the newspaper clippings that are going in the archives. Now, they created such an outrage among everyone who graduated from high school that the FCC itself had to back off from this embarrassing, pseudo-solution. The chap who launched the whole thing is good old Walter here. I’m the heavy-set guy from the left, and this is Kay Prince, the radiological chief of the State of Oregon; and Marshall Van Ert, who until recently was the health physicist for the University of Oregon, Industrial Physics Department. The guy on the left is Mike Talley, who wrote the articles, putting his reputation on the line before news blackout. He came along to some of these sites with us.

“YOU DON’T NEED AN INSTRUMENT”

The third lady from the end was a friend of Kay Prince’s who had come down from the capital to be with us on this particular field trip. At one of these sites, where we were measuring about a 50 Micro gauss ELF signal at about 5 Hertz, she got so sick that we almost had to carry her out to the car. She broke out in red splotches. She couldn’t hold her coffee cup. She became disoriented, felt that she was going to faint, had trouble breathing. You don’t need an instrument to find this stuff, kids. You only need an instrument to prove what it is to the establishment. This is Walter’s living room where we started the series of tests, showing some of the equipment. I’ve been asked to show some of the spectrum analyzer Polaroid shots. This was done on one of the better devices. You normally don’t see these. They were made only for the Central Intelligence Agency bug finders, to find surreptitious transmitters. It’s a Model 1501 Spectrum Analyzer. I came closer to hitting Bill on the head and stealing this thing than anything I’ve seen in my life. It’s a little package that tunes almost from DC up to beyond 500 Megahertz. You can tune in any frequency. It measures the entire spectrum, on each side of it, displays the frequency on oscilloscope, the band width, the amplitude, the F-sub-zero, etc.

“Could they be having one frequency which they want to work with and the others are just to mislead us?” (asks an audience member)

“Yes,” replies Dr. Beck.

They have phantom frequencies. They are reconstructing heterodynes. Let me tell you why we’re getting it and they are not: We are on a 60 Hertz power grid. They are on a 50 Hertz power grid. Get that? That’s why they’re immune. Every civilized industrial center in America is a potential reradiating weapon of this Psychotronic ELF Field. In other words, why should they build antennas, re-radiating systems, when all of us have 110 volt systems in our homes; and we are also served with gas pipes, miles and miles of conductors, cold water pipes, etc.

“Is there a quick explanation of why 60 cycles will pick it up instead of 50?”

Right. It’s a harmonic – (Dr. Beck turns on his recording of the audio pan of the Russian broadcast) – at 5.340 Megahertz. The growl was because we have a voltage control — or rather the VFO on the receiver. That was at 5.340 megahertz and we were listening to — in other words, since you cannot hear the fundamental (the actual ELF wave) we have the local oscillator on the super heterodyne receiver running. It is a global problem. Incidentally, for the engineers again, the attenuation rate of this signal is only about three tenths of a decibel to eight tenths of a db for a million meters. That means that this signal will go around the earth 4-1/2 times before it is down a half of its original value. Nikola Tesla was right. With some of these frequencies you can excite the earth Ionosphere cavity, as though it is a huge bell, and ring it!

In other words, the Russians have a thing here which cannot be stopped. It’s practically not attenuatable by anything that we are familiar with in physics.

Continued from Part 2)

[Riley Crabb: Hypnotists of the World take note, the High Priests of Low Astral Mind Control have graduated from strobe lights and glittering pendulums to the Magnetic H Wave as a means of surreptitiously getting inside the subject's, or victim's, mind. As Mr Beck told his Atlanta audience...]

We abandoned that (the flashing light idea) and began using the magnetic H wave). We began using little boxes, about half this size; you’ll see a picture of one in the middle. It would alter that person’s state of consciousness, and I was doing this before I began to realize the consequences of it. After while I’ll tell you why we’re not doing that any more. The little box is on the left. After we found that this thing could alter moods, the questions came up: Is this hypnosis? Suggestion? Am I a magician? Am I doing it? So it occurred to me that I’d carry this thing around with me in my pocket. Now, I’m a bachelor. I’ve been divorced for twenty-some years; so I eat out three meals a day. So when I went to Denny’s Coffee on Sunset Boulevard I put this thing in my pocket, and occasionally I set it at a specific frequency that I’m not going to mention — because I’ve been asked not to by the people who can ask other people not to do things. And pretty soon the waitresses would start dropping coffee into the laps of the patrons. The babies would start screaming. People within a 10 or 12 foot radius (that’s a 20 foot room) would begin freaking out. I’d surreptitiously turn this thing to two Hertz higher in frequency.

Hahhhhhh (a simulated sigh of relief), you could hear the room calm down.

If you had a pocket Radio Shack decibel meter, the cocktail level effect, the volume of the conversation will drop, noticeably, in decibels. Okay. We had something here and we knew that the Soviet research had gone underground. At least the papers were no longer being published at the same rate that they were.

THE MAGNETIC “H” WAVE PENETRATES EVERYTHING

Our own government was playing at that time God, I guess, with the multi-billion dollar Project Sanguine. Their purpose was to communicate with submarines under water, with ELF magnetic Fields. The project was kicked out of Wisconsin, Michigan, and a few other places by people who had a certain nervousness about environmental disruption. They’re trying to use power lines as antenna systems, surreptitiously. Let’s look at what they were about to do so they could talk to the submarines this way. There is a better way of doing it. Frequency less than 100 Hertz. How’s that for coy? The total antenna length could be up lo 1600 miles long, antenna line current 150 amperes, total power required — watch this number —20 to 30 megawatts; and they’d need 300 to 500 acres just for the transmitter site, antenna rights-of-way up to 4400 acres. This is our answer, using brute force to communicate with underwater submarines because nothing in the world will shield the magnetic H wave, at these frequencies. Nothing. Multiple new metal cages, Faraday cages, lead, you name it. These magnetic waves, not the E or I waves but the magnetic H factor goes through anything including the earth itself. Like you saw in the model, in Tom Bearden’s slide earlier this afternoon. Nobody is safe from this type of radiation.

[Riley Crabb: "Safe, Humpf! If we were not all vulnerable to the Power, Wisdom and Love of the Logos, there would be no Involution and Evolution! These electronic sorcerers have apparently stumbled on the area of radiation or vibration by which all Life on the planet is kept under control. Now we have sorcerer's apprentices in Washington and Moscow who want to use this new-found power for their own selfish purposes, guided by gleaming eyed monsters from some Astral Hell beneath the nations' capitals. (Reptilians?)]

The hour is nigh… Prepare to meet thy doom; Any particular rush? (ha, ha). Anyway, maybe it is later than we think… We know times are bad when every time you call Dial A Prayer, you get a busy signal (more laughter).

Any of you turkeys wake up about four o’clock in the morning and can’t get back to sleep until sunup, then sleep ’till noon? Let’s see it. Let’s see hands for four o’clock in the morning. Okay. You know why? We’ve been getting some very strong Russian transmissions. There is a particular anomaly that’s the same as the Dawn Chorus — if you’re familiar with atmospheric propagation research. It makes you particularly vulnerable at that time. Notice on this top curve this 8 Hz, the thing on which we want to latch if we’re pure, spiritual and psychic — whatever that means. Four o’clock in the morning the bottom drops out and whatever is left is going to get you, baby!

THE PHASE-ARRAY ANTENNAS OF THE RUSSIANS

The first estimate of the Soviet transmitters that were causing the problems were at Riga and Gomel. Kathleen Joyce donated her drill to the project and we drilled two little holes in a globe and put those two little tacks in it so you have a historical little item there. If you draw a Great Circle route between these phase-array antennas, you are in the area around Timmins, Canada. Now there may have been some tremendous disturbances up there about a year ago that were traceable to this particular problem.

Anyway, when Dr. Andrija Puharich was out here (in California) and Kathleen Joyce and I hosted him, we showed him the apparatus. This is probably the first he had heard of the psycho-physiological effects of the ELF Fields; and I recall on your living room floor, Kathleen, where he flexed his muscle near the coil, saw the spike readout on this little oscilloscope, and realized that we finally had a detector in human captivity that could see micro-gauss levels. In other words his EMG, the few micro-volts of potential, firing through the nerve impulses, through the conductive layers of his skin, was creating enough of a magnetic field to read out on this thing. He got very excited so we began showing him some of my research dating back for about the last eight years, and he decided that this was important enough to take back to the United Nations.

So he contacted the chap who really runs the government. This man has survived about the last five administrations. He must remain nameless because he is in a very low-profile position. I can assure you he is no one that you have ever heard about or read about in the newspapers. They sent me an airline ticket and invited me to come back to the United Nations and the weather was so bad that weekend — the winds were blowing about 30 miles an hour and it snowed six times in one day. The next day it was exceptionally hot. Anyway, we thought that weather manipulation was happening. It was most unusual for weather.

DR PUHARICH’S SOPHISTICATED FARADAY CAGE

Dr. Puharich and I were supposed to have about an hour. It ran into a two-and-half-hour briefing. Kurt Waldheim (Secretary General of the United Nations) was out of the country at the time, so our host and chap that we informed was the number two man in the United Nations, Rudi himself. Now, the experiments which caused all of the excitement. Any of you guys ever been in Ossining, New York and seen this Faraday Cage? (The home of Dr. Puharich, 87 Hawkins Avenue, about 40 miles north of New York city) It was probably the most sophisticated cage in captivity. It had three layers of copper and three layers of soft iron. In other words this is H wave shielding, and copper shielding for the E wave Faraday Cage. The thing probably has as much attenuation as the one at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), the triple new metal cage.

Okay, what we did here, we took this little box. Let’s break it out here. This box has been disarmed. It is only mildly psycho-active. We did this at the request of the people who tell you to do things, for damn good reasons. This is the one. We placed it outside the Faraday Cage. We sealed it up. Incidentally, the pickup, the magnetic pickup coil, is over here in this plastic garbage can filled with sand, to act as a micro seismic damper — so that we weren’t seeing quite as much vibration. We worked with several subjects and this little box was run by one of Dr. Puharich’s secretaries, outside. She was told to turn the dial a little bit. Turn it on. Don’t tell us what’s happening. Turn it off. Turn the dial to another number. Turn it on. Turn it off. Total double blind. No one inside the cage knew what was going to happen or when it was going lo happen. The subject’s brain waves were going to one channel on a chart recorder, with zero cross-talk. The other chart, with a tape recorder, was going to a magnetic pickup; so we could compare the brain waves of the subjects with what was happening magnetically inside of this absolutely airtight, secure environment. The chart readings — the one at the top and bottom were 180° changes of the magnetic pickup. The center portion of that chart was the human subject’s brain waves.

Over the range of 6 Hertz to 14 Hertz, with some subjects there was 100% entrainment of frequency and phase. Get that. They locked on total! A little box the size of a package of cigarettes, when it uses the neural frequency principle can entrain the brain waves of a subject inside a totally shielded room, without his knowledge, consent, etc, That’s what this is all about.

THERE AINT NO HIDING PLACE DOWN HERE

[Riley Crabb: "And now Dr Puharich had an inkling of the mechanical basis for the entrainment that he and Ila Ziebell, Sarah Bursak and Uri Geller enjoyed (or suffered) in Geller's apartment in Tel Aviv in December 1971. Do advanced Elementals on the Lower Astral Plane (Reptilians?) also have their Little Black Boxes as they carry on their work for the false Gods of Mankind? e.g. Jehovah, Allah ?]

What we’re saying here by entrainment — if you look at the shape of this wave, they all fall on the same time rate. Starling from a half a second to four seconds after the box goes on, the brain waves, the neurons, are being totally driven by this little magnetic oscillator. It is down below 25 nano-Teslas at the source. A nano is one billionth of one Tesla. A Tesla is 10 to the fourth gauss.

“PRIOR TO THE TOTAL NEWS BLACKOUT”

Back in March, the 26th and 27th of this year (1978) a chap named Mike Thoele, who is a journalist for the Eugene. Oregon Register Guard, decided to take his life in his hands and write about some of the things that had been happening up here. I have copies of these and many, many other articles that appeared in the public press prior to the lime of the total news blackout. There were a few articles for a few days. A day after this one there were the denials, by the FCC, the Environmental Protection Agency, etc.

Totally predictable, right? And I have a tape here of some of the signals that have been recorded.

How about the relationship between the Mean Annual Magnetic Activity and the number of Sunspots? Again, man is a bio-cosmic transducer. We know we live on a planet that has fairly well predicted (7, 21, 11, etc.) cycles. What about this curve of magnetic storms, that’s the top one, and mortality from nervous and cardiovascular diseases? A guy with a 25-walt transmitter — with the Luxembourg effect (which means a circularly polarized antenna aimed at the ionosphere), with a few Hertz frequency difference from a 50,000 watt broadcast transmitter can mood-manipulate an area of about 200 square miles. Dangerous? Hell yes!

How about comparison with daily periodic changes and the earth’s electric E and magnetic H fields, and rhythms of living organisms? Circadian rhythms? All of these graphs which you are going lo see for the next few minutes, incidentally, are from medically accepted literature, from the medical journals themselves. The dielectric constant of water, the magic transducer.

(To Tom Bearden) “I’ll give you a copy of this in print, Tom, you don’t need notes.”

Okay. Here’s another one, a paper generated in the Radio Science Journal, Research of the National Bureau of Standards. Again take a look at where the magic number appears to be. That’s an 8.0 under the power distribution curve, the same Figure that we were finding in the heads of the psychics, the medicine men, the witch doctors, the Christian Mystics — they’re all the same! Why was the north Atlantic Treaty Organization, Advanced Study Institute on Low Frequency Magnetic Radiation, generating paper work by the bushel until about 12 years ago? Here’s some of their findings. Let’s skip some of the technical part of it. We don’t want to intrude on the time of the next speaker.

THAT MAGIC, OCCULT NUMBER

7.8 Hertz. Any of you people know Dr. Ed Maxey, Stanton Maxey, in Florida? Okay. About the time I was playing with it he did a interesting very experiment. He took a little coil, a few turns of wire, put it on the floor underneath the operating table — what do you call those damn things that they have in the Electroencephalographic room? Where they check for epilepsy, etc? He found that by turning this thing on at certain frequencies a large percentage of the people tested had brain wave entrainment. Entrainment simply means that their brain wave — the firing of their neurons —- latches on to this magnetic field coming from this little coil putting out micro-gauss. You can’t even measure things this low unless you have highly sophisticated equipment. It is occult. It is invisible. It’s tasteless, odorless, etc. This is in a paper that he presented to a geophysical society meeting not too long ago. He too came up with the magic number that I have: 7.8 Hertz. He found that exactly four seconds after this field went on, the subject’s brain waves would lock on exactly, on frequency and phase.

“How about this for a covert, manipulative tool?”

“7.8?” asked a member of the audience.

“7.8 is the number he used”, replied Beck. “We’ve refined that down to three decimal places.”

MAN-WOMAN – THE BIO-COSMIC TRANSDUCER

A lot of people, a few years ago, began looking at the possibility that Man is a Bio-Cosmic Transducer; not only a transmitter, but a receiver; and that somehow his brain waves can lock on and modulate this (the earth’s) field, and this might be the medium for ESP. Some good work that was being done at UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) in their brain research group.

Dr. W. R. Adey was on another government grant sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, into the effects of these (in this case pulsed) very high frequency fields that were pulsed with a very low frequency modulation. His published papers, and this goes back several years, show that this could influence the brain waves of cats and monkeys; and he didn’t talk about the work that was done out there with human beings because by now this was fairly sensitive. They knew it worked. They didn’t know why. So a lot of time, money and effort went into finding out what in the human brain was beginning to respond to this.

[Comment by Riley Crabb -- At this point the reader might well ask: What is the Navy doing looking into electro-magnetic modification of human behavior? And, if this is for the defense of the nation, why be so secretive about it? Unless of course the real target of the psycho-political warfare is the people of the nation.]

Now, a few German physicists were looking into the possibility that this may have been the mechanism that we have lived with for thousands of years. The name of this paper is “The Biological Effect of Extremely Low Frequencies in the Atmosphere”. In other words, if we live in a natural ELF environment could this possibly be the key and mechanism for mass accidents, mass suicides, etc? All of the people who did this work independently, Tromp in Holland, Koenig in Germany, found, yes, when they went back through the weather records, this had to be the mechanism that caused all of these admissions to psychiatric hospitals on certain days, all of these homicides. The data is beginning to become massive.

James R. Hamer — or Hammer. He was working with human subjects, and he has disappeared, as have a few others. He did some extremely interesting work, and this was way back in 1968. At that time he was with the Space Biology Laboratory Brain Research Institute, University of California. The rest of his papers that I managed to gather about ten years ago are now classified. You can’t get them for love or money; they have been up-statused. Hamer found that in a 9-Hertz signal the reaction time was definitely shortened. You were more alert. If you changed that signal down a few cycles per second, 3 to 5 Hertz, look what happens to the reaction time. This applies to human beings, monkeys, cats — apparently ail life forms that have brain waves. Tromp did the same thing independently. Some more of the paper that was generated on the Office of Naval Research grant at UCLA.

(Another slide) This is another of the papers which was subsequently classified. At that time he was doing this work openly at the Northrop Space Laboratory and this was an inter-office memorandum which survived the classification process.

If you’d like to see that I’d be happy to share it with you.

HOW ARE YOU ACTUALLY AFFECTED BY ELF WAVES?

Let’s get out of here and into other things. Solar activity and incidence of cerebral spinal meningitis. Tom Bearden was talking about Carrier possibilities? We don’t know whether the waves lower your resistance, or you can actually put the information on them and it is re-created inside the nervous system. Crest days of weather pain and the relation to sun spots and magnetic disturbances, etc. Mortality diseases of the nervous system and the lower curve of sun spot activity. In other words, we are looking here at natural ELF phenomena before it began being manipulated. Sun spots and earth’s magnetic activity. Again epidemic meningitis.

Okay, now it gets really interesting: Socio-political mass disturbances, 1923 to 1927, in Europe, related to Full Moon axis. Remember, the full moon modifies the tides. It modifies these frequencies. In this case the tides are in the Ionosphere and the Heaviside Layer and their position above the earth. Double daily deaths from angina pectoris, and combined groups on the Lunar axis. What if we could manipulate this? Whole populations would be subject.

Tuberculosis. What? Does it influence those germs, those little microbes, as well? I don’t know, but there it is, positive correlation. Cholera in Russia, from 1823 to 1923, versus solar activity in the same period. Maybe all of the life forms on this planet are locked in to this electro-magnetic energy, just as the Radionics and Radiathesia people have sensed, for quite a while. Epileptic attacks, of course, totally predictable. Suicides. People tend to go unconscious on this because it’s frightening and it’s a little heavy, technically.

HOW TO MANUFACTURE A PSYCHIC

Again, here is an artist’s conception which I have adapted to show this synchronized brain wave activity, the stranger within. Okay, if psychics are people who have a particular brain wave pattern — we don’t know which comes first here, the chicken or the egg — can you make a psychic by driving his brain wave to that particular frequency? Marvelous question, don’t you think? Brilliant, wish I’d thought of it first.

Our first attempt at manufacturing psychics and Radionics operators and healers was to put these little light bulbs in an empty eyeglass frame. On the left is an incandescent bulb and on the right is a little cold cathode indicator, like on your FM radio tuner. We flashed these little lights in real time to the Schumann resonance (we picked the Schumann resonance up on a coil), filtered out everything except that wave to which the psychics would entrain and fed them this little flickering light. If you flash a light in a person’s face you get an evoked potential in the occipital cortex. That’s the photic response. And you know that if that is at a certain frequency you are going to turn that person onto epilepsy. You’ll have a petit mal seizure. Remember all these night clubs in New York, these psychedelic clubs, that were having these lawsuits against them because the operators would get the strobes in around a thing which was the second harmonic of the Delta spiking rhythm you see in epilepsy?

Okay, when they test for epilepsy in the hospital, they flash lights at your head at a certain frequency, or they give you a drug which will over stimulate the firing of the neurons. But, if you put in a beneficial frequency, you can probably cause an evoked response of the brain wave at that frequency. Now that was marvelous, except for one thing. It takes about one hundred milliseconds from the time that light flashes for the signal to cause an evoked potential, and that hundred milliseconds varies for most human beings. In other words, you can test IQ with this little box. The longer it takes that flash to get out here as an electrical signal, the dumber that person is because the slower his system is responding.

You are aware of Hurtle’s work in Canada that found non-culturally biased IQ (Intelligence Quotient) tests for cats, dogs, babies, people who couldn’t speak English, people who couldn’t read or write, etc. So what was terribly wrong with this brilliant idea was that the light didn’t get there to the brain for everybody at the same time; so we abandoned that idea and began using the magnetic H Wave.
<hr

Schumann, playing around with math as physicists are prone to do, postulated that the earth – being a good conductor – was surrounded a good dielectric called air and around this is another layer of a good conductor known as the ionosphere, the Heaviside Layer, and that this constitutes a potentially resonant system. All of you Boy Scouts know that your compass points to the North Pole because the earth itself is a magnet with a North and South Pole. Now that means that any energy trapped in this earth-ionosphere cavity — like lightning storms, etc. — will cause it to ring like a bell. But the surprise was that this signal frequency was the identical spectrum of human brain waves. I see we are getting some nods out there. Those of you who are up on your current physics know about this. It was irresistible to me to build an apparatus to measure the Earth’s brain wave, and at the same time measure the Witch Doctor’s brain waves, to see if there was correlation; which we did. THE PSYCHO-MAGNETIC COMPONENT The fourth or fifth generation system is right here on the floor in front of you today. Now this publication, which is the ‘Journal of Research’ of the National Bureau of Standards, Division of Radio Propagation, Volume 66, page number three, May-June 1962, tells one of the early efforts where a government study, granted to Drs. Koch and Pitchum at the University of Rhode Island, had made recordings of the earth’s brain wave, and those of you who know anything about Encephalography could almost diagnose the patient by these little squiggles. They look identical to human brain waves ! Below, typical human brain waves from W. Grey Walter’s “The Living Brain”, page 87.

“Were you taking this reading off the apparatus yourself?” asked a member of the audience. We’re reading the Magnetic H Wave which is the psycho-active component, replied Beck. Any radio propagation wave has three components; the E Wave which can be picked up by an antenna, the Electro-Static Component; the Magnetic Component, the vector is 90° at right angles to it — we’ll get into it a bit later. It’s a good question.”

Okay. So we built apparatus to test the thesis: Are there certain people walking among us today — perhaps one person in three thousand — who by dent of heredity, or training, meditation, or whatever it might be, is able to tune in to this magnetic component, which is down around one micro-gauss, one millionth of a gauss.

THE “ENTRAINMENT” OF PSYCHIC HEALERS

Somehow they latch on to this cosmic carrier of information, transduce it into paranormal “seeing” ability — after Carlos Castaneda and his maybe-mythical Don Juan — could this be the “drummer” to which these psychics, healers, dowsers, etc., were entrained? The tentative answer to this is, YES! And we’ll see how this has been developed into a weapon of war… Now, the brain wave spectra — of even Dr. Hieronymous here, whom we measured at about noon today — seems to center around that magic number of 7.8 to 8.0 Hertz (cycles per second). In other words we now have an objective test to see whether that person is tuning in to a paranormal state of consciousness, or whether he is getting disincarnate, making it up while he goes along, garbage. If we look at these curves (referring to a slide on the screen) at 8 Hertz, 7.8 Hertz, there is a tremendous node in the earth’s brain wave. There’s another one at about 14 Hertz, etc. Amazing! The same numbers which you get at the Alpha-Beta border, the Alpha wave, Beta, etc. Man is a bio-cosmic resonator.

Let’s get past this a little bit. Now, what are some of the factors which can alter human moods if this thesis is correct? Sun spot activity. Recall how solar flare activity totally disrupts radio communication on this planet? It also changes the frequency of the Schumann wave. Lunar tides. The same gravity forces that cause tides in our oceans de-tune the earth ionosphere cavity slightly, changing its frequency. How about this as a solution for ‘moon madness’? A lot of previously anecdotal, but very well documented data, is going to seem to fit this model of why is man sensitive to these cosmic events?

Here are some photographs of solar flare activity. The Earth, drawn to the same scale as some of these tremendous bursts of energy, is this little dot right here. Tremendous bursts of energy from outer space alter the Earth s ionosphere cavity therefore changing the frequency slightly; therefore it can retune our nervous systems, electro-magnetically.

SOLAR RADIATION AND STOCK PRICES

We don’t have Mr. Beck’s film strip but we do have a battered copy of the classic in this field, Dewey and Dakin’s “Cycles, the Science of Prediction”, published in 1947 by Henry Holt & Co., New York. Below is a reproduction of chart 9, page 144: On page 142 Dewey and Dakin write; “. . . in 1934, two Harvard research workers, Carlos GarciaMata and Felix Shaffner, reexamined the Jevons studies (on crop cycles) and checked them; they ended with the conclusion that sunspot phenomena showed no correlation with agricultural production, but- the solar phenomena showed a remarkable correlation with industrial production, business activity, and with stock market prices. Since this particular outcome of this studies apparently left them a little surprised and aghast, the two students threw up their hands and passed the problem over to the biologists and the psychologists.” Biologists and Psychologists (at Harvard) apparently weren’t particularly interested, we might add, but Russian physicists were! They later proved in their own way that the 4th Kingdom in Nature, the human kingdom, reacts immediately to the Magnetic changes of the Sun, and offered this knowledge for the practical and tactical use of the Military Maniacs in Moscow.

LOCKED IN THE MAGNETIC EMBRACE OF THE SUN

Again, continues Mr Beck, that little dot on the solar flare is the size of the earth. Now we wont go into the physics of the H Layer and the I Layer, etc., but basically the ionized particles that are emitted by the sunspot activity eventually arrive at Earth, are trapped at the North and South Geomagnetic Poles, and cause all sorts of electromagnetic anomalies right here, where we live, our own little space ship. The inner magnetosphere, the solar winds, the outer magnetosphere: some of the things that we are familiar with that are triggered by this energy coming in from the Sun are the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis. These reveal the tremendous amount of energy that comes in and ionizes the rare gasses, creating the luminescence, Nature’s light show. Earth’s magnetosphere is caused by interactions of the Solar Wind, Geomagnetic Field, and trapped particles such as those in the Van Allen regions. Sunward side of the magnetosphere is pressed in toward Earth by the Solar Wind, while the magnetosphere’s “tail” presumably extends past the orbit of the Moon. From Ben Bova’s paperback book: The Fourth State of Matter.

THE MAGICK OF THE PRIESTS

What if the ancient people realized that on certain days of the year, the solstices, the equinoxes, etc.; these frequencies change; and what if the priesthood decided to build observatories like Stonehenge and the ones all over Central and South America, Europe, England, to predict these so the people could be either freed or implanted all over again?? I don’t know the answer to that. It is a totally hypothetical question. But it was terribly important to them to predict these seasons and for reasons beyond the usual ones given, which were usually agriculture, etc. This next slide is titled: “The Influence of Planetary Position on Solar Activity”. The top curve is the disposition of Jupiter, Earth, Venus and Mercury relative to the Sun. The lower curve is sunspot activity. One to one correlation. Now, how about an electro-magnetic basis for Astrology? As the positions of these planets create gravity tides, and influence sunspot activity, it cannot help but change the frequencies in which we are bathed daily, which are occult. YESTERDAY’S MAGICK IS TODAY’S SCIENCE!

Now, let’s think about this word ‘occult’. It cones from the same root as occluded. That means hidden. You probably realize that half of Europe in the Middle Ages died every few years because of Bubonic plague, Black Plague, etc., because Von Leeuenhoek hadn’t invented his Little microscope and looked into a drop of water. People like Pasteur had not yet decided that this was not the work of demons and devils but bacteria and microbes and fungus, etc.

All these things had been occult prior to the invention of instruments that would reveal them to man’s consciousness so he could potentially deal with them. If you don’t believe in the germ theory of disease then apply this model to whether you get good wine or bad wine from France in certain years. But these mysterious (magnetic) forces had been occult prior to 1952 when the predictable effect of these electromagnetic influences had been discovered by a physicist, and in 1962 when they had been actually observed. Clyde Tombaugh observed the planet Pluto years after it’s presence had been predicted by its permutation of arcs. Now for some of the figures you’ll get out of your medical and physical textbooks: Why does man, a biocosmic resonator, function in the manner of your nervous system acting as a receiver? A brilliant researcher predicted about ten years ago, that 8 Hertz would be the psycho physiological frequency for an altered state of consciousness. These come from standard medical reference plates.

Man is unique in that the RNA in his brain has a dielectric constant K of 140,000. How many engineers are in here? Do you realize the significance of that figure? That one little cell, out of billions and billions in your cerebral cortex, can approach the liquid crystal boundaries, a quantum transducer that will respond to coherent energies in the neighborhood of one hundredth of a micro-gauss. Now you’d have to be an engineer to follow that last thing and if you did you’d probably fall over dead. This has not been suspected until fairly recently. It means that we are not $2.40 worth of minerals and water — as I learned when I was in the third grade. We are incredibly complex bio-cosmic transducers; and the things that we have been calling mind, or occult, or what have you, are today surrendering to scientific research on a rational basis. It means that we have within us probably one of the most sensitive, quadruple-conversion, super heterodyne receivers that’s ever been developed; and that we can respond to energy levels that almost appear paranormal.

PREDICTION OF ATTEMPTED GLOBAL MANIPULATION

In fact some of the paperwork that came out o£ the secret files, and was declassified and hand delivered to me, pointed out that our own Central Intelligence Agency three years ago had given a research grant to Garret Air Research Corporation, El Segundo, California; in which Dr. Ed Wortz, one of my buddies in biofeedback research and Dr. Jed Erkins, had predicted the exact mechanism by which the Soviets are manipulating — or can manipulate us globally. From this very data, that Man, as a bio-cosmic transducer, can respond to things which had previously been called ESP (Extra Sensory Perception) with known, physical mechanisms. That’s what it means. That’s part of it along with the translation (from the Russian). This was about a second or third generation Schumann detector. At that time there was one of these at the University of Rhode Island, another at the National Bureau of Standards in Colorado, and a third one was in the trunk of my 1970 Chevy, heh , heh. But this was the-basis of some of the research that we were doing. And like we did with Dr. Hieronymous and Tom Bearden – and a few others today – we can now carry a little tape recorder and a little box about this big, the size of a king-sized pack age of cigarettes, into the field and make Schumann resonance measurements, brain-wave measurements; put them on a C-60 cassette, take them back to a lab and do analysis that would have been considered previously impossible, even with equipment that weighed hundreds and hundreds of pounds.

So now we have the equipment to which the occult is beginning to surrender its secrets. This was about our fourth or fifth generation Schumann detector. The wrist watch in the picture will give you an idea of the size of it. Now we can go out into the field and do some real research without benefit of a government grant. I know the colleges and universities that were working on this. We saw the amounts that went to the University of Rhode Island, hell, that would have kept me going for the next hundred years! Well, this is a do-it-yourself project. It was rather primitive but we did begin getting the results. This coil (another picture) oh, there’s Dr. Bluejoy, Dr. Candless and some of us looking for a site for his Health Ranch, based on magnetic anomaly standing lines that would be beneficial for human habitation. How many thousands of years have the Chinese practitioners, using their own bodies as a transducer, been practicing Kung Schwei? Etc? What is propitious for human habitation?

THE “SECRETS” OF THE OCCULT

Yes, they will yield to the determined investigator, but what is his or her motive? Suppose it’s only scientific curiosity? Or even lower on the scale of incentive, to sell the secret to the highest bidder? The CIA in America and the KGB in Russia? Their squalid morals are a matter of public record. In past ages such investigations were conducted in the strict privacy of temple priest hoods or occult Lodges, and the investigator was an Initiate, sworn to a certain code of behavior. If he or she violated the code the penalty was death. Now we have scientists publicly investigating the Power of the Mind, and publishing abroad the mechanics of the manifestation of that Power in the emotional and physical worlds! Will the Ever- Present Creator have to initiate the whole human race to assure compliance to His Law? Yes, the initiation process began with World War I and is still continuing… (WAR IN IRAQ!) This is like Carlos Castaneda’s ‘Place of Power’. Now the chap in the center had come over from India to observe some of our work. There is Dr. Jack Zimmerman and Family; and some of the heavy heads in the Los Angeles area. This was about five years ago; and again it’s in a primitive state of research, but I think we can turn you onto it as time goes on. (another slide) This is Oracle Rock in New Mexico.

CENSORSHIP: CIA? KGB? OR IMPECUNIOUS STUDENTS?

Now, an interesting thing developed. A.S. Pressman, Department of Physics, Moscow University, did this open literature survey of the work on magnetics and life a number of years ago. Then suddenly most of these references — or rather the critical ones in Soviet literature — went underground. Is this trying to tell us some thing? At the time I did my own literature search, in which I found 182 references in the open literature to the effects of Extremely Low Frequency Electro-static and Electro-magnetic fields on human performance, mood, etc. At that time all of these things were in the open literature. Now one of my students went around to the bio-med library at UCLA not long ago and he found a number of these had been sliced out of the text with a razor blade! That leads us to two conclusions: #1, were the kids too broke to put a dime in the Xerox machine? Or had some of these been removed?

There is evidence that ELF magnetic waves can affect brain waves. This set of experiments was designed to study the effects of ELF rotating magnetic fields on the brain.

The specific ELF frequencies I was interested in studying are 6-10 Hertz. These frequencies are the same as those produced by the human brain in the theta and alpha states. Generally, specific brain wave frequency ranges can be associated with mood or thought patterns. Frequencies below 8 Hertz are considered theta waves. While these seem to be some of the least understood frequencies, they also seem to be associated with creative, insightful thought. When an artist or scientist has the “aha” experience, there’s a good chance he or she is in theta. Alpha frequencies are from 8 to 12 Hertz and are commonly associated with relaxed, meditative states. Most people are in an alpha state during the short time immediately before they fall asleep. Alpha waves are strongest during that twilight state when we’re half asleep and half awake. Beta frequencies (above 12 Hertz) coincide with our most “awake” analytical thinking. If you are solving a math problem, you’re brain is working at beta frequencies. Most of our waking hours as adults are spent in the beta state.

A question of importance is: “If we can electronically shift the brain wave frequencies to alpha or theta, will a person’s moods or thought patterns change to those commonly associated with those frequencies?”. In other words, if we can electronically move a person’s brain waves to the alpha frequencies, will they become more relaxed? Will their state of consciousness change to coincide with their brain waves, even if those brain waves were electronically induced? These are important questions with far reaching implications.

When I began these experiments, I was well aware of the possible ethical implications involved in ELF research. For example, if I were carrying an ELF transmitter operating at alpha frequencies, would the people around me be affected as well? Would they unconsciously gravitate toward me because they’d become more relaxed as they moved closer to me? Would they like me more because they felt “good” when they were around me? What if a salesman were carrying an ELF transmitter? Would people be influenced to buy something because they were more relaxed around the salesman? Could entire populations be influenced to be comfortable with ideas they would normally reject? These, and many others, are serious ethical considerations involved with ELF research. They cannot be taken lightly.

I decided to undertake this research with full knowledge of the ethical implications. While there is the potential for misuse, a desire for knowledge and understanding are part of being human, and the potential benefits to humanity are great. What if we could treat depression, insomnia, anxiety, stress and tension with ELF magnetic fields? What if we could increase intelligence or improve learning? As in any scientific endeavor, there are both positive and negative potential uses for any discovery. One only need look at the development of atomic energy to understand the benefits/misuse dichotomy. It is my personal belief that the potential benefits to humanity justify the research.

I began by collecting all the available research on ELF fields. Lana Harris, a secondary research specialist, did an excellent job in acquiring virtually all the available research in this area. In addition to a multitude of published journal articles, several military and NASA research reports were ordered. A review of the research showed that most studies had been performed to determine the effects of 50-60 Hertz high voltage power-line fields. Since these are the frequencies of most of the world’s electrical power distribution systems, the importance of understanding the effects on plant and animal life are evident. To a much lesser degree, a few researchers had concentrated on lower power and lower frequencies (the focus of this study).

Equipment

The equipment required for this research was easily attainable, with the notable exception of a stable frequency counter with .01 Hertz resolution. Accurate frequency measurements were essential for this research, so I designed and built a digital frequency counter capable of measuring frequency to the hundredth of a Hertz (plus or minus .005 Hertz). A 100 KHz crystal Colpitt’s oscillator (calibrated with WWV) was used as a time base and divided by ten to the seventh power to attain the desired resolution.

Other equipment used is: a Biosone II Brainwave Monitor and Myosone 404 EMG Monitor (Bio-Logic Devices, Inc., 81 Plymouth Rd., Plainview, NY 11803); a Model 3011 Digital Display Function Generator (BK Precision Dynascan Corp., 6460 West Cortland St., Chicago, IL 60635); and IBM PC compatible computer with a clock speed of 7.16 MHz (the faster the clock speed the better); a SAC-12 A to D signal acquisition board (Qua Tech, Inc., 478 E. Exchange St., Akron, OH 44308); a Codas II video board and software release 3 (Dataq Instruments, Inc., 825 Sweitzer Ave., Akron OH 44311); a Fluke 77 digital multimeter (John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc., PO Box C9090, Everett, WA 98260); and StatPac Gold statistical analysis software (Walonick Associates, Inc., 6500 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55423).

The transducer was a 24″ diameter hand-wound coil, consisting of 1000′ of #25 magnetic wire. The coil had a DC resistance of 32.4 ohms. It was mounted on a 26″ square piece of bakalite board for stability. Two dowels were mounted with plastic ties onto the board so they extended 24″ from opposite sides of the board and the entire apparatus was secured by two microphone stands.

Experimental Design

All twenty-two subjects were friends or acquaintances of the author. There was no remuneration to participants. The excitement or novelty of participating in a brain wave research experiment seemed to provide sufficient reward in and of itself.

Subjects were sent a pre-experiment letter briefly describing the intent of the experiment and what they could expect. They were asked not to use any drugs or alcohol for 24 hours before their appointment, and not to wear any metal jewelry. (It was thought that metal jewelry might distort the magnetic field, thus creating uncontrolled inconsistencies between subjects.)

Upon arrival at the laboratory, participants were given a short orientation to the procedure and any questions they had were answered. They were hooked up to the EEG monitor (frontal to occipital, midline) and then allowed to listen to a relaxation tape for five minutes. The purpose of the relaxation tape was to establish a “relaxation level” baseline and to relieve some of the anxiety associated with the experiment. At the end of five minutes, the headphones were removed and the subject was told they were at a relaxation level of 5 on a scale from zero to ten (0 being very tense and 10 being very relaxed). This was the baseline they were to use for reporting their relaxation level following each ELF exposure. Subjects were told that they could choose to stop the experiment at any time.

Each ELF exposure consisted of a ten second, sine-wave transmission separated from one another by 45 – 60 seconds of no exposure. The voltage fed to the coil was 3.1 VAC (RMS). The coil was positioned 18″ in front of the subjects head. The outputs from the ELF transmitter (function generator) and the brain wave monitor were fed directly into the computer A to D board, allowing both to be displayed on the computer monitor (and recorded on disk) simultaneously. The sampling rate of the A to D converter was set at 2000 samples per second for the entire experiment. This was sufficient to visually detect differences of .1 Hertz between the ELF and brain wave frequencies. Subjects were not told when a transmission was beginning. However, at the end of each transmission, they were asked to “report”. This was their current relaxation level based on the zero to ten scale. They also reported any feelings they had experienced and these were recorded verbatim. Twenty-one frequencies were presented to each subject (from 6 to 10 Hertz in increments of .2 Hertz. For half the subjects, these frequencies were randomly selected. For the other subjects, they began at 10 Hertz and were decreased by .2 Hertz with each transmission. Subjects were not told the order of frequencies that would be presented to them.

Post acquisition software was used to visually examine the coherence (frequencies) and synchronously (phase relationship) between the transmitted ELF and prominent brain waves.

Results

Examination of the computer data revealed substantial differences between subjects. Some subjects showed lock-on (entrainment) over a wide frequency range, while other subjects showed no lock-on whatsoever. In general, lock-on occurred most frequently from 8.6 to 10 Hertz and less frequently below 8.6 Hertz.

One subject displayed lock-on for all frequencies from 7.4 to 10 Hertz. Two subjects displayed no lock-on over the entire frequency range. While I did not test a sufficient number of subjects to be statistically significant, I suspect that susceptibility to ELF entrainment follows the normal (bell-shaped) curve. At this time, I do not have any hypothesis that would allow us to predict who is susceptible and who is not.

Several interesting observations were readily apparent. Lock-on generally occurred very rapidly… within a quarter of a second in most cases. If lock-on did not occur at a specific frequency in the first second, it didn’t at all. When the brain did lock on, the amplitude of the brain waves increased to nearly double their normal size. This is typical for naturally (non-ELF) produced alpha patterns. The brain locked on to higher frequencies (9-10 Hertz) more readily, and maintained the lock-on for the entire duration of the transmission. As the frequency was lowered (below 8.6 Hertz), lock-on for most subjects occurred in bursts, rather than being continuous. For example, there might be immediate lock-on for two seconds; then the brain would “fight” the ELF frequency for a quarter of a second, and then lock-on again for another few seconds, etc.. I use the word “fight” because it looked like the brain was fighting the ELF to maintain its own frequency. The “fight” was characterized by low amplitude beta frequencies in the 15-20 Hertz range. These may, of course, have simply been analytical type thoughts, but they were not observed when the frequency was in the 9-10 Hertz range. This “fight” became more frequent as the frequency was lowered, until no lock-on was observed at all.

None of the subjects were able to consciously detect the presence of the ELF field. One female subject was able to detect whenever the field started or ended, but could not accurately say when if it was on or off at any given time. In other words, she was able to detect the change in the magnetic field, but not the presence or absence of the magnetic field itself. She thought she felt it because it aggravated her sinuses. When lock-on occurred, the brain waves lagged behind the transmitted ELF. This appeared to have been the “reaction time” of the brain to the ELF waves (approximately 60-80 milliseconds). More accurate experimentation is needed to explore this relationship.

Subjects verbatim reports were quite revealing. (Keep in mind that none of the subjects actually said they felt the ELFs.) The most common verbatim reports occurred between 8.6 and 9.6 Hertz. Common statements were subtle “tingling” sensations in the fingers, arms, legs, teeth, and roof of the mouth. Two subjects reported a “metallic” feeling in their mouth. One subject reported a “tightness” in the chest and another subject reported a “tightness” in the stomach. Several subjects also reported sensations when the ELF frequency was between 6 and 7 Hertz. The verbatim responses in this range were “ringing” in the ears, “flushed” face, “fatigued”, “tightening” in the chest and “increasing” pulse.

Lock-on occurred at lower frequencies more often when the transmitted frequencies were progressively lowered, rather than randomly presented. It would seem that the brain prefers a gradual lowering of frequency rather than a sudden or abrupt change in frequency. This may have been due to the extremely short duration of each transmission (10 seconds). It may be that this effect would disappear if longer transmission times were used.

There was no significant correlation between subjects reported level of relaxation and the ELF frequency or the occurrence of lock-on. Again, this may have been due to the extremely short duration of each transmission.

Summary

It is clear from these experiments that brain waves do in fact lock on to artificially produced ELFs in the 6 – 10 Hertz range. It is equally clear that the 10 second transmission was not sufficient to alter subjects moods to any consistent degree.

Additional Observations

Since my original experiment, I have continued to study the interaction of ELF’s and brain waves. These mini-experiments were conducted more informally than my original experiment and the observations are based on only one or two subjects. They should be considered only observations until confirmed by additional study.

A sine wave produces lock-on more readily than a square wave or a triangle wave. A sine wave output produces a rotating magnetic field where there is a gradual build up, collapse and reversal of the field intensity. A square wave output produces a pulsed alternating magnetic field where the build-up, collapse and reversal of the magnetic field is more abrupt.

The brain is sensitive to a wide range of intensities. I have observed lock-on with power settings down to one half of a milliwatt.

Psychics and “sensitives” are neither more or less prone to lock-on than anyone else. I have tested two well-known psychics and a Kahuna from Hawaii. While all three subjects produced more alpha that usual, it was not related to the ELF generator and they did not show unusual lock-on. It is interesting to note, that the woman who could “feel” when the field switched off and on (in my first experiment) was one of these psychics.

Extended exposure to ELF’s does alter moods, but the effect is subtle. I was not able to duplicate the “dramatic psychoactive” effect that Robert Beck has reported. Low frequencies (below 8 Hz) seem to produce a general agitation or uneasiness, while higher frequencies (8.6-10 Hz) produce a general feeling of relaxation. These are not profound effects like drug induced mood changes. The subject is not aware of any change in his consciousness or mood. From his perspective, nothing has changed. However, an outside observer can detect subtle changes (e.g. body movement). I have confirmed this by monitoring muscle activity with an EMG monitor.

I have exposed myself to ELFs for one and two hour durations and have found that the frequencies from 8.6 to 9.8 Hertz to be sleep inducing; however, it is impossible to eliminate the placebo effect from experiments I performed on myself.

I built and distributed several portable ELF generators for testing. I have received many reports that indicate that falling asleep with the ELF generator operating is probably not a good idea. People don’t feel rested when they sleep with the ELF generator on. My personal experience supports this. ELF’s may inhibit dreaming which is necessary for normal brain functioning.

I have found three definite beneficial uses for the ELF generator: a) for relaxation, b) to eliminate jet lag, and c) the elimination of seizures in a dog.

The Story of Maynooth

Shortly after completing my first experiments, my neighbor’s dog began to have seizures. Maynooth was a one year old, 190 pound Irish Wolfhound. His seizures were occurring four to five times a week. A seizure by a 190 pound dog is not a small affair. He would trash around wildly with no awareness of his surroundings. The seizures would last 10-30 minutes. My neighbors took Maynooth to the vet, who prescribed phenobarbital to control the seizures. The drug was not effective and Maynooth continued to have regular seizures.

After discussing Maynooth’s condition with my neighbor, we decided to try a portable ELF generator that Maynooth could wear to control his seizures. Seizures are accompanied by wild fluctuations in brain wave activity. We hypothesized that a portable ELF generator could control the seizures by stabilizing Maynooth’s brain waves. If we could get Maynooth’s brain to lock-on to an ELF frequency, we could in effect, eliminate the seizures.

I constructed a portable ELF generator about the size of a pack of cigarettes. The ELF generator was powered by a nine volt battery and had two frequencies, selectable by a toggle switch (10.0 Hz and 7.83 Hz). The 10 Hz frequency was chosen because previous experiments had shown that lock-on was more likely to occur at higher frequencies (i.e., closer to the prominent frequency of the brain). The 7.83 Hz frequency was chosen because it is the resonant frequency of the Earth and naturally occurring low intensity magnetic radiation can be detected at this frequency (Schumann, 1952).

The schematic for the portable ELF generator is illustrated. It is a twin-T oscillator followed by a high power 386 amplifier. The twin-T was chosen because of its high stability and low distortion sign wave. Construction is straight forward and the placement of parts is not critical. All parts are readily available. The two 10K frequency adjustment pots should be 10-20 turn trim pots to allow precise frequency adjustment. The 10K output level adjustment pot should be set so that the output feeding the coil is less that 100 milliwatts to comply with FCC regulations (I set Maynooth’s to 10 milliwatts). The coil itself is not critical and can be wound on any iron core. Use only an alkaline or nickel-cadmium battery.

Maynooth began wearing the generator in the spring of 1988. We tried the 10 Hz frequency first. The results of the experiment were astounding to say the least. Maynooth’s seizures stopped immediately when he began wearing the generator. Furthermore, Maynooth was able to completely stop taking the phenobarbital and the seizures have remained in remission. For the first three months, Maynooth wore the generator all the time in a cloth pouch from his collar. After that, the generator was only used at night and simply placed near his sleeping area.

Maynooth has had a total of three seizures following his first use of the generator. Two of these could be traced to malfunctions with the generator. The first was a broken wire from the battery connector and the second was a dead battery. The third seizure could not be explained by a hardware malfunction, although Maynooth was only using the generator during the night and the seizure occurred during the day. It should be noted, however, that this seizure was mild in comparison to his prior episodes.

Maynooth’s owners were so convinced of the efficacy of the ELF generator, that they asked me to make a spare generator in case the one they had broke. Maynooth’s vet (at the University of Minnesota) showed curiosity in the generator, but not enough to explore it further. They preferred to remain with a drug treatment, even though it had proven to be ineffective. Fortunately, Maynooth’s owners had more sense.

Maynooth still uses the ELF generator in his sleeping area at night. The rechargeable battery is charged during the day so it is fresh each night. (The battery lasts about 6-8 hours at a 10 milliwatt power setting).

Andrija Puharich’s Watch

Dr. Andrija Puharich sells a watch that he claims will work a shield for ambient high frequency ELF’s (40-100 Hz). An important feature of this watch would include shielding from 60 Hz power lines. I had the opportunity to try one of his watches for a few days. The owner was quite reluctant to part with it so I had to run all tests over just one weekend.

It is quite easy to monitor ambient 60 Hz radiation being absorbed by your body. Simply touch the probe of any oscilloscope and you can watch the 60 Hz wave. Your body is acting as an antenna and the amplitude on the oscilloscope is an indication of the amount of radiation you’re absorbing. I found no difference in the amplitude when I was wearing the watch or when it was removed by a distance of four miles.

I attempted to determine if there was any measurable magnetic output from the watch. I used a large roll of magnetic wire as a pickup coil and connected it to the input of an EEG monitor with five microvolt sensitivity. The EEG voltage was fed directly to the A to D board of the computer. The equipment was tested for proper functioning by bringing a magnet in proximity to the pickup coil. A weak magnet moving within six inches of the pickup coil would drive the EEG monitor into saturation. The watch was placed against the coil but I could not pick up any magnetic fields from the watch. This surprised me because I was using very sensitive equipment and the watch had to be producing a magnetic field because it was using a battery. Anytime there is a current flowing (even the small current required to power a watch), there is always a magnetic field created. Either the watch was cancelling it’s own magnetic field or my equipment was not sensitive enough to measure it. (It turned out to be the latter).

The final test was to hook myself up to the EEG monitor while I was wearing the watch. The output was fed into the computer so that I could do posthoc analysis. I wore the watch for 15 minutes and recorded my brain waves. The incidence of beta and alpha frequencies was not different from my “usual” brain waves. I could not substantiate Puharich’s claim that the watch would act as a filter with a center frequency of 10 Hz. This particular finding may not be accurate because my excitement with the experiment may have inhibited the alpha centering that Puharich refers to.

Since I had told the person I borrowed it from that I’d take good care of the watch, that precluded the idea of disassembling it. I carried the watch with me in my backpack that weekend. As luck would have it, the back cover of the watch fell off and I got to examine the inside.

<a

As far as I could tell, the watch was normal in every way except that there was a square sheet of copper (about 1 cm square), wrapped in plastic packing tape inside the back cover. The tape was obviously used to insulate the copper from the electronics of the watch and the back cover.

With the copper removed, my equipment could still not detect the magnetic fluctuations produced by the watch. If the copper sheet does do anything, my equipment was not sensitive enough to measure it. This indicates that the amplitude of the magnetic field produced by the watch was very low, probably around the amplitude of the naturally occurring magnetic fluctuations of the earth.

I do not know whether Puharich’s watch works. It did not reduce the electromagnetic radiation that my body was absorbing, nor did it alter my brain wave pattern in any way I could detect. My current understanding of ELF’s, electronics and magnetics does not provide a theoretical foundation for the efficacy of the watch.

Electromagnetic Pollution

When I began my research, I was only interested in the effects of ELF’s on brain waves. I have since come to believe that ELF’s are only the tip of the iceberg. Electromagnetic radiation may be the most harmful pollutant in our society. There is mounting statistical evidence that cancer and other diseases can be triggered by electromagnetic waves.

ELF pulse-modulated radio waves work at the cellular level. Cancer and birth defects have been increasing in this country since about 1950 (as television became popular). The average resonant frequency of the body is around 82 MHz. It is no coincidence that this is near the middle of the VHF TV band.

Even low intensity 60 Hz fields are capable of causing DNA damage and weakening the immune system. Cancer cells exposed to 60 Hz electromagnetic fields for 24 hours show a sixfold increase in their growth rate.

The evidence is becoming overwhelming that cellular functions can be switched on and off through frequency specific electromagnetic radiation that induces nuclear magnetic resonance in the cell. We may find that many diseases can be caused or cured by frequency specific radiation that is ELF pulse modulated.

In our technological society, there are few places to go where you will not be exposed to electromagnetic radiation. Television, radio and microwave radiation are abundant in all metropolitan areas. High voltage 60 Hz power lines crisscross the country. Microwaves (one of the most dangerous) are becoming increasingly common. The FCC has started to grant licences to use microwaves for cellular phones.

The powers that control the energy and communications industries will stop at no end to prevent the public from learning the truth. Their financial health depends on it. Since the military is one of the largest producers of high power electromagnetic radiation, it is not likely that we can count on government intervention.

We have probably reached a point where the only solution is in the form of a portable shield device. ELF generators may be one possible solution. My current research is in this area.

<a

This perspective is the result of a continual observation of the phenomenon, with a concomitant effort directed toward elimination of many of the associated local neuralgia effects. The article is not intended to represent a completed experimental project by any means, but is merely an introduction to the topic area from a more definitive vantage. It is hoped that a renewed experimental research may determine the exact details of the HUM phenomenon along these more clarified avenues of thought. It is noteworthy that, in every aspect, such phenomena mirror those which compelled Baron Karl von Reichenbach into his legendary researches. The fruits of such study contain equally prodigious and monumental discoveries, an encouragement for those who will seek and find.

A great host of individuals throughout North America and Northern Europe have reported the reception of nocturnal auditory disturbances, collectively termed “the HUM”. No modern text offers explanation for the national mystery. It is for this reason that we will collate some of the subjectively discerned phenomena, empirically observed effects whose nature offers us the clearest direction toward understanding the HUM source. The HUM is heard by an increasing population of persons who are awakened nightly by its annoying and sometimes painful performance. So panregional have these reports been, and so credible the observers of the phenomenon, that one is compelled to affirm the existence of the effect. While the objective data received through reliable reporters may realistically be questioned in moments of scientific doubt, one is convinced of its reality after encountering the experience firsthand.

The HUM represents several simultaneous anomalies for those well versed in the lore of natural anomalies, an audio phenomenon which challenges the very basic notions of sense, perception, and world process. On the validity of personal experience and experimental verifications of a precursory development, I have therefore decided to make several statements concerning the HUM phenomenon and its associated effects. Indeed, I have also chosen to elucidate somewhat on the HUM to provoke dialogue between the mechanists and the biodynamicists.

<div

This growing population of nocturnal risers neither suffer from the physical symptoms normally associated with the aging process, nor are among those unfortunates afflicted with clinical insomnia. In many cases, the victims of the malady are quite young and otherwise in complete positive health. So insidious is this social manifestation, that many are stimulated into fantastic speculations. Nevertheless, we perceive an ever increasing population of new HUM victims whose numbers grow daily.

Conspiratist writers have associated the HUM with military projects such as SANGUINE, or HAARP; concluding the insomnia to be a test of psychotronic weaponry on the national population. Such symbols of the subconscious national fear might have too long worked their way into the hearts of the susceptible, were it not for the simplest kind of evidence concerning the HUM. Curiosity and the need to know far exceed any orthodox standards, filters, or approvals. The absence of extensive measuring tools does not preclude us from making our assessments on an overwhelming phenomenon which academia continues to ignore and deny. Gleaned from the few writings and from numerous dialogues with qualified observers, we are free to share our own subjective consortium of data on the HUM.

But what is the “HUM”, and what are its effects? What causes the HUM, and why has it seemed so very impossible a phenomenon to objectify? Are there means by which to obtain hard evidence of the effect at all? Can we indeed discover those connective touchpoints between our subjective experience of the HUM and its true sources in the external world? Is there a measurable continuum between our innermost experience and the outermost world? These are hard and straightforward questions demanding equally hard answers. The HUM effect is indeed a “phenomenon-extraordinaire”. The HUM is a subjective experience, a deep and permeating tone which comes in pulsations. But it finds connectivity in an external stimulus, one which has not successfully been found by most researchers.

On certain nights, the disturbance reaches peak crescendi. These are interspersed by quiescent moments, when the roaring vibrations seem to relax and vanish for a time. Soon the phenomenon reasserts itself, and the “roar” once again reaches its previous powerful volume levels. The HUM is evidence of a regional phenomenon, a geomantic effect. The HUM phenomenon has slowly gained recognition among a substantial population of well equipped researchers, many of whom cite government ELF projects as the probable cause. HUM effects have been viewed as “leakage” phenomena, the results of local geological ELF conduction. Emerging from its otherwise subterranean conduction strata, researchers have believed the effects wholly due to NRL SANGUINE broadcasts. Local HUM experiences begin as very occasional manifestations, manageable and non-incursive.

To satisfy the skeptical dictates of the orthodoxy many have eagerly sought the supposed local acoustic noise source, imagining refrigerator motors to be this probable cause. On hearing the loudest HUM manifestations, not a few researchers are surprised to find their household refrigerators have usually ceased functioning for the night. Despite this complete absence of a close physical acoustic source the HUM is not prevented from suffusing an entire house. One may move from room to room when the HUM manifests its presence, discovering that the humming sound finds its greatest resonant magnifications on lower floors.

Rooms each mysteriously modify the main throbbing sound, adding discernible harmonics to the main HUM tone. This is especially noted when HUM events overwhelm our sense of hearing. Moving from an outer wall into each interior room of a building, one hears distinct HUM pitch changes. Hallways and small alcoves raise the pitch considerably enough for astute observers to take notice. In addition, HUM volumes change considerably with progressive movement away from outer walls, evidencing both the directionality of the local HUM source and the effect of blocking. Because of these observations, first HUM analysts imagined the phenomenon to represent a purely acoustic effect. It was in these first “acoustic” considerations, and the subsequent empirical discoveries, that the HUM was realized as a completely anomalous phenomenon.

The HUM throbs asymmetrically in time, a volume which “flutters”. One may explore the effect throughout the early morning hours of its usual activity, each such emergence offering fresh opportunity for study. One grows familiar enough to know when the HUM has mounted a sufficient power to rouse normally insensitive persons from sleep. The comments of others concerning their own nightly disturbances is sufficient corroborative evidence that the HUM has actually made itself regionally known. One is not greatly surprised to find that many neighborhood friends and acquaintances, while exhibiting some degree of discomfort in sleep, are often not roused by the less powerful HUM incidents. Individuals who suffer from this habitual awakening apparently experience the HUM in various degrees.

There are those who demonstrate varying degrees of awareness concerning their insomnia. Some have claimed that the HUM is more strongly felt by the more sensitive kind of individual only during their sleep periods, and that insensitives are not bothered by the disturbance at all. Nevertheless, normal sleep for some is absolutely broken by the HUM. The simple and mild audio-related awakenings gradually become an habitual condition, and some unfortunate persons have found themselves now rising nightly in a chronic insomnia which rules their sleep patterns. But this is not where the effects have ceased their incursive influence on the lives of those exposed to HUM events. In fact, some who experience HUM-related insomnia have begun observing a sudden shift, both in the frequency of their HUM observations and in new accompanying effects.

There are certain persons whose simple audio HUM experiences have recently been accompanied by a range of strange physical irritations. At first mildly stinging, the irritations gradually become an ever increasing flow of neuralgia which floods the musculature of arms and legs. For these persons, this peculiar neuralgia now accompanies every manifestation of the audio HUM. With effects which persistently linger throughout the daylight hours, certain such persons have actually fallen victim to a strange condition which leaves them fatigued and debilitated with every morning. Both the symptoms and conditions have remained unrecognized by physicians for reasons having entirely to do with insensitivity, ignorance, and willful denial. These irritations then represent a relatively new feature of the HUM, one which challenges analysts and skeptics alike.

It has been reported that extreme HUM events stimulate unusual personal responses. During such episodes, the neuralgia provokes survivalistic tendencies of a kind approaching those induced by asthmatic attacks. As neuralgic pain increases, personal movement becomes more conservative, efficient, and comfort-oriented. HUM neuralgia effectively stimulates deep seated survival instincts which, in its most powerful manifestations, become autonomic responses. These responses are of a depth which completely eliminate all degrees of personal freedom. This irritation literally induces the “feral” or “fetal” response, a sure sign that penetrating irritation has reached the central nervous system. A furtive sleep seems to follow these initial survivalistic arousals and maneuvers. The unfortunate individual who now suffers in times of extreme HUM disturbances, seems controlled by very fundamental and autonomic response-reflexes when in its grips. Such sufferers may behave in semiconscious modes, modelling behavioral patterns seen only in animals.

In the sometimes painful episodes brought about by the HUM, the self-survival drive becomes a tool for the most revealing kinds of studies. In the throes of HUM related neuralgia, hypersensitive individuals will seek the lowest portion of a house. In fact, they will seek relocation in the very basement of a dwelling if possible: the deepest connection to ground. In extreme HUM events, hypersensitive individuals “curl up and sit tight”. In these fetal reversions, the human body innately recognizes the HUM as a hazardous and unfamiliar agent. The response is one having utmost significance for HUM researchers. In this severe and permeating “feral” response, it is clear that the HUM represents an external unfamiliar irritant. In this semi-catatonic posture, it becomes rather obvious that our normal repertoire of survivalistic reflexes does not include an appropriate autonomic response. The HUM triggers no protective neurological reflexes…because it is completely unfamiliar to the human condition. The HUM is very clearly a recent manifestation in the natural environment.

AUDIO

The HUM can be deafening for those who have grown particularly sensitive to its manifestations. Such subjectively excessive HUM experiences stand in stark contrast against the hard fact that the HUM cannot be recorded by any ordinary means. It is precisely this incongruence which represents the major impasse for anomaly researchers. Indeed, there is an inference in these considerations which places doubt on the reality of nocturnal HUM disturbances and their associated effects. The inference however does not in any way reduce the growing numbers, who both sense and suffer from the HUM.

The elusive and frustrating HUM had first prompted many to begin testing the reality of their experience through conventional audio techniques. Waiting for each peak nocturnal HUM manifestation, researchers attempt its capture on magnetic tape. Previous to this decade, the infrasonic detectors of Vladimir Gavreau very successfully sought and discovered numerous unsuspected natural and synthetic infrasounds. Adapting special PZM type microphones to magnetic recording technology, contemporary researchers fully expected to capture high volume HUM tones with their equipment. Mounted on large surface areas, these microphones should have absorbed sufficient sonic energy during HUM episodes to render powerful audio registrations of the same. In controlled settings, where PZM equipment was designed to select infrasonic signatures, professional investigators remained utterly unable to trap the HUM. Neither PZM or any other microphone, however sensitive, was able to sense and record the HUM. It was this inability which yet forms the basis of a real scientific mystery, one which places the HUM in its recent controversial poise.

The inability of recording the HUM has, for serious HUM researchers, attracted the derisive public commentary of several academic authorities. Not only can investigators not locate the source of HUM audio signals, but researchers have been unsuccessful in explaining how high population observations and corroborations of HUM phenomena resist audio registration. Examiners of the great natural variety of infrasonic generators yet actively explore and monitor their prospects with greatest enthusiasm and care. Self-funded, but sparing no expense for their labors, several research teams have independently taken their state-of-art recording equipment down into the deeper parts of the earth. Hiking for miles into subterranean caverns, their search of real infrasonic resonant cavities has produced no conclusive result. Too many neophytes, convinced that they will be the ones to secure hard recorded evidence, are completely dismayed after repeated failed efforts in these regards.

While some groups have reported an increase in subjective HUM experience with increasing depth below surface level, they have rarely been able to record or correlate any associated audio HUM. By attaching sensitive transducers directly to subterranean cavern walls, the weak physical vibration of geological bedrock has registered weak signals for some. But these studies have produced no real correlations between subterranean infrasounds and the HUM proper, certainly no equivalent pulsating ELF audio signals. Additionally, neither pounding surflines, waterfalls, howling caverns, nor valley windtunnels have managed to procure correlations between their infrasonic outputs and the HUM.

Thus far, hard recorded evidence of the HUM phenomenon does not exist. But in the absence of audio recorded evidences, one must resort to alternative detection techniques. Methods used in a former series of investigations have described ground conduction apparatus and ground antenna technology (Theroux, Vassilatos). And it is here that we do find evidence of an electrical component in the HUM phenomenon. What place this electrical component plays, whether source or by-product, will be discussed further along in our study. There are several means by which we may register audio signals which correlate strongly, if not identically, with regional HUM activity.

It is perhaps a special trait of shortwave receivers, those which have been equipped with ground antennas, that a host of different static signals may be found throughout the day. These variable static signals are always observed through the implementation of ground antennas. Shortwave correlations of the HUM have been determined along several wave bands, the excessive noise found in the 2 to 4 megacycle band being most impossibly distorted for use. For trained ears, these static signals represent the articulate variability characteristic only among biological processes. One discerns these biological warbling signals when working with plants and Galvanic Skin Response audio sensors. The warbling tones of plants teach the astute observer to recognize the characteristic biological signature in any signal. The static variables to which we refer are unmistakably biological in character. These naturally generated signals are found across a wide range of frequency bands, finding their correlation among several simultaneous settings. And it is among these signals that we learn an amazing fact. Most of these natural static signals have an overwhelming volume and do not reveal any of the variable “warbling” artifacts common to the audio experienced HUM effect.

The most useful shortwave static signals are extremely discrete in bandwidth, but do not commence manifesting their warbling variables until certain hours of the day. Indeed, these static warblings commence and correspond exactly with HUM events. These signals evidence a volume variability of great detail which may be examined throughout each of their more active periods, a simple and accessible means by which to monitor and verify the reality of the HUM.

Between the hours of 9 AM and 9 PM, one does not generally discover the pulsating portion of the static signal, although there have been exceptions to this rule. The warbling commences as soon as subjective experience of the HUM commences. They also cease to a featureless static background when the HUM ceases. Such discrete static signal stations are featureless and relatively flat throughout most hours of the day, but the variable pulsations begin appearing after 9 PM. These build in crescendo until the peak nocturnal HUM effect naturally occurs between 2:30 AM and 3:30 AM. There are thus six hours, both leading to and following the 3 AM median, in which the warbling HUM signal actually makes its appearance in an otherwise natural featureless static.

The variable pulsations make their daily appearance, neither with clock regularity nor with equal intensity. One observes exact correlations between the experiential audio HUM and the shortwave warbles. These shortwave correlations match both in pulse number, tone, and intermittent surges. Such static is normally taken by listeners to be simple natural noise effects, the results of natural charge building phenomena. But the variability of these specific static signals, especially those whose effects seem most powerfully able to modify emotion, which represent far more than the mechanistic earth process of charge development. It is in the warbling variability, the articulate detail inherent in these specific static signals, that we find evidence of biodynamic process.

Indeed, were the subjective HUM effects simple audio stimulations, the irritating pressure would not be so very permeating and painful. Infrasound does not prefer windows to walls, effortlessly passing through whole structures and finding resonant cavities within the interiors of buildings. The HUM diminishes with progressive movements deep into building interiors. Were the HUM the result of an infrasonic audio power source, it could obviously then never permeate physiology enough to stimulate neural aggravations. But the “feral” self-survival response infers an energetic aspect which far exceeds those force normally considered in closed orthodox circles.

PHYSIOPHONIC ENTRAINMENT

Every model which presupposes the development of mechanical vibration through electrical stimulation completely fails. The necessary ground surface effects of such propositions are absent, further contradicted by the empirical observations. The actual subjective experience of the HUM is very different from all attempts at elucidating its objective existence. It is experience, subjective evaluation, which has produced the most amazing assortment of HUM related discoveries.

First, the tonal characteristic of the HUM itself contradicts all of the conventional suppositions concerning extra low frequency currents. The HUM arrives as an audible tone which pulsates at a countable rate. In other words, the fundamental HUM tone itself is not a superlow audible pitch. People hear the HUM. It is within the range of human hearing, and cannot be the product of ELF generators. This contradiction adds weight to the argument that HUM phenomena cannot possibly be the result of deliberate ELF experiments or industrial electric by-products. There are some who seek explanation of the effect as an upper harmonic of a more fundamental ELF signature. If so, where is that signature? None have been measured.

One seems never able to escape the nocturnal phenomenon, however poised or positioned. When it is heard, the HUM seems to permeate and suffuse every part of a building. The HUM seems to pressure into a house from all walls, yet evidences a defined directionality along a local compass heading. While walls do produce some of the HUM tone within a building, windows especially emanate HUM effects with greatest power. The HUM is both heard and felt from windows as a pressured tone. Facing the window of greatest HUM penetration, this strange pressure literally envelopes the body. For this reason many supposed the HUM to be an infrasonic emanation. One may indeed block a great deal of HUM volume by interposing a pillow between oneself and the window of maximum HUM emanation. On doing this with care, one notices a defined and sudden muscular relaxation. Along with this comes a great diminution of HUM volume. But this does not infer that the HUM is an acoustic phenomenon, as recording failures have demonstrated. By what principle is the HUM making its appearance through windows, and by what principle is it possible to block HUM power through organic absorbers?

One especially hears the HUM in the relaxation of sleep. In the silence of night the sense of audition is able to better isolate specific audible stimuli in the surroundings. The HUM, however, seems to build its presence into an overwhelming suffusion. The loud and suffusive HUM tone, heard with fully opened and unencumbered ears, is an effect responsible for the illusory acoustic nature of the HUM. In this we recognize a characteristic of the ear drum and its ancillary sensitive structures. In addition, observers have noted that the HUM acquires an enriched harmonic “ring” when the ears are fully opened. These observations do not infer the acoustic nature of the HUM, referring us instead to learn an unsuspected nature of auditory sensation and the auditory apparatus in human physiology.

Opened-ear audition of the HUM acquires harmonic ringing, and often reaches some peak volume, because of forced vibrations. The sense of hearing is overcome by the stimulating energy inherent in the HUM. Auditory physiology is literally driven into a peak resonant condition by the incoming HUM, a phenomenon which demonstrates auto-amplification effects. HUM induction thus actually drives the ear drum and cochlear neurology into a maximum vibrant state, one which often rouses sleepers from the deepest phases of sleep. With the ears fairly suffused with the overwhelming HUM sound, one may perform several simple personal experiments which will clarify the true nature of HUM signals and open a new world of wonder. First, carefully note the nature of the HUM. When you chance to notice its permeating presence, familiarize yourself with its more obvious audible characteristics. The HUM is indeed a “humming” tone. The HUM has a rapid rhythmic aspect, a toning pulsation. In addition to the overall tone and its pulse rhythm, one hears a characteristic aperiodic “fading”.

When these personal HUM tests are properly practiced, we may easily count off the rapidly pulsing tones, noting their familiar “asymmetric fades”: the sound which has been described as the “distant idling diesel engine”. To count the pulses, one first matches their rhythm on fingers. Match the rhythm which you hear. Once you have ascertained the relative correctness of your match, then count off the pulses against a sweep hand dial. Thrumming the rhythm of the counted pulsations against a sweep hand is a simple but remarkably effective means for discovering the slow pulsing action characteristic of the HUM phenomenon. One may thus count a steady pulse sequence, finding each HUM event to differ slightly between 6, 7, or 8 vibrations per second. In addition to this overall humming pulsation, a variable “volume envelope” is noted. The humming pulse is one whose strength rises and falls asymmetrically in time. It is this latter feature which some have described as the “idling” hum.

Contrast differences are indeed absent when the test is properly done, care being taken not to distract the HUM focussed attention. Hands must be moved in as much silence as possible. Some analysts object to the need for HUM audio focussing. These critics claim this to be evidence that the HUM is a fictitious sound, the result of mild mass hysteria and self-deception. But since there do exist several proofs that the HUM is an objective reality, we can safely conduct these personal experiments with confidence. During a HUM event, one may sample the differences in HUM amplitude by very gently holding hands over the ears. Most who stop their ears during HUM events actually lose their own audition of the HUM tone through their own rough handling of the test.

One must maintain awareness of the HUM while carefully and silently bringing the hands to each side of the head. One must maintain this awareness throughout the subjective tests, a condition required in such subjective comparisons. Why it is absolutely essential to maintain “HUM awareness” is a revealing phenomenon. First, it is important to recognize the differences in personal sensitives across the general population. The HUM is not heard by many people who lack the ability to focus in on environmental stimuli. The HUM is “personally elusive” only because of this demographic artifact. The HUM is an external and objective reality, having both source directionality and peak time manifestation. When properly conducted, the HUM audio continues being heard with absolutely no amplitude changes. With attention focussed only on the HUM audio, one carefully brings the hands ever close to the ear canals. In this carefully executed personal test, one will indeed continue hearing the HUM even with hands touching. There will be no amplitude change. The only instance in which amplitudes change during the experiment is when we have roughly handled our senses, or created rude distracting noises which overcome our awareness of the HUM.

The HUM tone does not fade when the ears are softly closed. HUM audio is continually heard “within the ears”. Thus even with the physical contact closing of the auditory canals, we learn something more about the HUM. Closed ear HUM audition is indeed a clue which leads to our thesis concerning its true nature and source. This remarkable discovery too serves as proof that the HUM is more than an acoustic phenomenon, an anomalous induction which permeates thin single-layer materials and hands. Michael Theroux reported his experiments with the HUM, experiments in which he demonstrated masking effects of the same. Using cloth curtains, it was found possible to block out some of the window penetrating HUM inductions. He also managed to mute the HUM by placing dampening material in window casings. Each of these experiments reveals a strange blend of HUM characteristics, which deserve complete exposition and satisfactory explanation.

The principle value of Victorian Bibliographies finds its utility and advantage when once-familiar anomalous phenomena make their modern reappearance. Lacking modern explanation, one finds the former perspectives of inestimable and timeless value. Too few of the researchers have studied the HUM phenomenon with these perspectives in mind. The degree of depth demanded by this remarkable manifestation of unearthly sound finds its answer in old and dusty volumes. Now largely forgotten by most of those involved in the work, the “physiophonic effect” is well known by students of early telephonic arts. Physiophony, originally discovered by Antonio Meucci in 1842, involves the electrical transmission of audible vocal signals directly into the neurology of listeners. His accidental discovery is the basis of his first “teletrofono”, the first telephonic system seen by the world. In this remarkable physioelectric effect, electrovocal signals breach the resistant skin barrier. Signals are thus “heard within”, a physiophonic or “neurophonic” effect which occurs entirely without benefit of the ears.

Physiophonic sound is an externally stimulated internal sound of sometimes enormous volume. With applications of excessive voltages, subjects experience muscular tetanus effects indistinguishable from those observed in HUM phenomenon. The real auditory seat of the HUM disturbance is thus found within the musculature and neurology of its unfortunate sufferers. The “sound” which becomes so deafening at times, is the sound of nerves and muscles. The effect is induced in the musculature of exposed persons, and represents auditory stimulation through myoelectric vibrations. The audible sound is therefore heard in the rapid vibration of muscle tissues which have been externally stimulated by an unknown energy source. The rubbing sound which fills the head cannot be recorded through microphones because it is more powerfully manifested within the very deepest centers of physiology itself. It localizes itself in the “stomach brain” of the solar plexus, driving the deepest musculature into extreme states of tetanus. Thus induced by external disturbance, the HUM is actually produced within the contracting muscles. It cannot be recorded with audio microphones. The audio portion of the HUM is the sound of muscles, the strong myocontractions within the neck which stimulate audition. One does not therefore hear the actual source of the HUM disturbance. One hears instead the muscular response to the causative disturbance, that which has yet to be discussed. This physiophonic entrainment is the phenomenon which conspiratists claim are entirely due to military ELF experiments. In addition to this muscle-vibrating condition, one falls into a very deep and distressful autonomic “mood”. This deeply emotive condition blocks the normal flow of consciousness, forcing concentration solely on the reestablishment of comfort.

Thus we may understand why the HUM manifestation surges to excessive levels of strength and brings a distinct kind of neuralgia to its more sensitive recipients. The onset of severe muscle contractions, the true cause of sleep loss, brings the primary alarum responsible for sleep termination. The awakened recipient finds his or her entire musculature in a state of unnatural tenor, a painful tension which reduces into a continuous fatigue. With this extreme tenor, sensitive victims “hear the HUM”. The painful neuralgic effect is the result of an excessive induction of myocontractions. The exhaustion reminiscent of results produced by forced-muscle exercise stimulators, designs intended to burn fat through electrical applications to muscle tissue. Neuralgic HUM related conditions grow with time. Without some diminution in the external pain causative agency, individuals become worn down with each nocturnal repetition. The more overt sleep disturbing aspects of the HUM develop with increasing absorption of the nightly effects.

Because these effects are myoelectric frictions, internally induced by external agency, they cannot therefore be recorded through ordinary audio means. But where audio microphone recordings fail, myoelectric recordings should best reveal the HUM in all of its artifacts. The entire body is disturbed by these assaults. The painful “pressure effect” is a muscle response when exposed to the energetic impact. There is every indication that certain individuals retain some lingering portions of the HUM impact for longer periods of time than others. This may have something to do with personal physiochemistry, a variation by which certain neurological systems can self-eradicate the HUM associated toxins. Irregardless of the blind instinct to seek shelter and comfort from the irritant, the associated neuralgic pain is never eradicated by relocation alone.

The question which has addressed this mystifying property asks why so overwhelming a sound fails to produce correspondingly loud magnetic recordings is thus solved. It is precisely because the HUM itself resists and eludes the best efforts of recording engineers and their equipment, that we innately recognize an entirely different mode of auditory stimulation at work. But what mode? In addition to the weak ground-related HUM sounds, the insomnia, and the neuralgias, there are strange “roaring winds” which sometimes accompany the strongest HUM manifestations. These fill the surrounding limits of the neighborhood, a wind phenomenon unlike any other. One notices that the roaring wind, one which seems to fill the entire local region, seemingly arrives from all directions simultaneously. These roaring winds have a peculiar vortexian nature. They surround the listener on all distant sides, yet produce no observable movements in any close objects. So great is this roaring sound that one may awaken by its force alone. Yet, this is not the HUM. The roaring winds appear only during extreme HUM episodes.

It becomes at once apparent that these strange winds are the result of a strange energetic expression, one which is external in source. When the HUM is in its maximum manifestation, one seems to be in the very center of sudden and unexpected weather extremes. These effects fall into the observation center from the outlying periphery shortly after sunrise, a phenomenon of great significance. The wind is very obviously a part of the phenomenon which represents evidence that the HUM is a natural, albeit extreme expression of biodynamic energy. The roaring wind is actually generated by the HUM, a most remarkable part of the HUM phenomenon which takes external physical form. In addition to these winds, one experiences strange acoustic effects which literally suffuse the surroundings.

Distant sounds become abnormally and dramatically amplified during early morning HUM extremes. The sounds of very distant trains become mystifyingly distinct and magnified, seemingly emanating from a few yards away. This strange “acoustic tunneling” effect only accompanies strong HUM events. In addition, the direction from which these acoustic anomalies are sourced exactly matches the compass heading from which the HUM effect arrives in a neighborhood. As if this were not anomalous enough, there is also a distinct kind of lumination all along the periphery of a region. The smokey white light appears throughout the surrounding horizon, a bright white “gloaming” which rises above the treeline. This white light has nothing to do with earth stresses commonly associated with pre-quake or near-quake episodes. It is a phosphorescent expression which has often been observed in Staten Island, a location virtually devoid of the tectonic or piezocrystalline activity usually cited in mechanistic explanations of the phenomenon.

HUM ORTHOGONY

On collating the data received across the nation from several highly revered subject sources, one immediately notices that HUM manifestations vary only with the local experience of sunset: a remarkable coordination from place to place. The HUM effect sweeps through different geopositions with clocklike precision, a phenomenon which would not occur with the deliberate operation of a land-fixed military project. Observers each report nightly HUM effects with time reference made only to their local occurrence of sunset. That the HUM cannot possibly be the result of deliberate military or industrial projects has everything to do with the time coordination and the “attack headings” of each HUM manifestation. Bordering neighborhoods which experience HUM phenomena do not receive the HUM impact from the same compass headings at all. In fact these impact directions, these HUM vectors, often oppose one another. Study also reveals some regions which lie between HUM experiencing lands, do not themselves experience the HUM at all.

We are therefore challenged by perplexing combination of contrary variables: similar local time appearances, completely differing compass headings, identical pulsation envelopes. But the geographic “sweeping” time effect is the strongest evidence that HUM phenomena result from more fundamental natural process. Smooth procession lines may be mapped across the nation for each specific event. On any particular night of HUM activity, one observes that HUM effects appear after local sundown. Widely separated persons who felt the HUM effects did not feel them at the same hour, relative to any possible source point. In fact, HUM effect sites revealed a time reference with respect to local sunset alone. This remarkable fact alone indicates that HUM phenomena are natural phenomena, and not military projects at work.

There are places where the HUM vectors, directions from which the HUM is actually impacting a region, completely differ from one another. In this aspect, one of enormous import, the georegional HUM orthogony is completely asymmetric. Thus we see how HUM vectors do not occur along strictly identical compass headings. One may not draw a smooth line through towns and cities and find consistency in the HUM vectors. Were the HUM a military signal, we would expect it to make itself known across the nation on a singular registered instant of time. But the HUM does not reveal any such panregional orthogony. Despite the consistency of each regional report, no consistency in the time of the local events can be cited. Indeed, no singularity in the observation of the “HUM” exists across the nation or world.

Were military ELF systems the responsible parties, one would expect every HUM observation to occur at a single fixed time, irregardless of geographic position. Each nightly HUM event would therefore occur with reference to the station source, a singular time coordination which would be recognized by observers across North America. HUM effects would be expected to vary by a fixed 3 hour interval across the nation, even if deliberately varied by the “source station”. The conspiratist model presupposes this “national sweep” to be a deliberate deception, the phantom military stations nightly sweeping the United States to hide their presence. Indeed, the HUM seems to represent a source whose throbbing signals contain some mysterious conscious message. Many who have experienced the HUM mention a mysterious awareness that the throbbing HUM is “under conscious control”. Indeed, it is under conscious control…but not by human agency. I have no longer any doubt that the HUM is an intensified expression of the prolific natural energy, that agency responsible for organizing and bioarticulating the natural chaos.

AEOLUS

In its audio characteristics, the HUM is not a new phenomenon. Having attributes tantalizingly identical with modern observations, the HUM has given its persistent performance throughout history. The HUM was known as “Aeolian Wind” in its ancient expressions, an identical low pitched throbbing tone which “moaned” in the dark of night. These occurrence of HUM phenomena were reported in various popular journals throughout the Nineteenth Century, undoubtedly attempts to solicit scientific perspectives on the effect. A sound known as the “wind in the mountains” was reported in 1928. Long a part of local folklore in Seskin, Ireland this “variable throbbing tone” resembled that produced by an “distant engine”. British observers of the same phenomenon stand on record since the last World War, when residents of London and Southampton reported the same throbbing HUM in 1940.

The HUM and its more auditory attributes have a lengthy historical record. The HUM predates symbols of modern conspiratist mythology, such as SANGUINE and HAARP, by centuries! Added to the aforementioned empirical evidence, one marvels at the adamant attitude of those who adhere to symbolic models which deny the obvious. Facts which deny “military culpability” may irritatingly deflate the theme of symbolists without doubt. I both thoroughly expect and encourage a wonderful flood of critics who cannot pull themselves away from the turbidity of symbols and myths long enough to breathe in the new view of a conscious atmosphere. Please write, I adore your symbologies.

Irregardless, one must rest secure in the revelation of a viable and more personally relevant world foundation than symbolists can ever hope to develop. In order to obtain a measure of comfort, albeit a perverse and deranged expression, some require their hairshirt of fear. If your need for fear is indeed your security, I will give you a better hairshirt than the best fear merchant can weave. There is an implicit warning in what I have written, one which should resound throughout the community. Symbolism and its seductive threats can only incapacitate those who fall under its fascinating vacuous sway. Hopefully, some will be shaken away from the muddy security of their subconscious rivers long enough to see the light of day…while it lasts. The new attributes of the HUM greatly concerns me, being a manifestation of bioaction on a greatly magnified level. Neither in former centuries or decades had the natural HUM phenomenon manifested its irritating incursions. The new pain-generating effect is evidence that a panregional revulsion is taking place, one in which biodynamic energy is now consistently making incisive forays against the deranged by-products of a now too gauche and overdone mechanistic technology.

Caught in this titanic crossfire, humanity is only beginning to feel the first deadly embrace of a world-condition which may prove to be terrible in consequence. The HUM is the first evidence of this struggle. Indeed, we are witness to dynamic energies whose essential characteristic is biological and conscious in nature. For those truly devoted to the possibility of developing a bioenergized and geoconscious technology, these findings could not have arrived at a more opportune moment in history. Nevertheless, if the HUM phenomenon is not studied and comprehended from a more scientific base, then counter-measures will not develop in aid of humanity.

Related articles:

<a

Thrilling, intoxicating, the hysteria of heaven, the enthralled and frightening flight of angels. Electrifying. Messaien’s organ music signalled messages of meaning, titanic foghorns ululating among dimly perceived near-worlds. Olivier Messaien, master composer of musical expressionism, used the ground thrumming tones of great Parisian cathedral organs to evoke sensations which may only be called otherworldly. Masterfully macabre. Black foundations, blue pillars, and rainbow ceilings.

Sound, rhythm, and space. Ultra-chromatic chord frames, rising like rock walls from the black depths. And immense stellar crystallizations, radiating tonal perfumes through deep and black radiant space. Lovely and lyrically swooping melodies, the flight of birds through delicate limbs. And melodic lines, reaching up toward unknown depths of space, each had their foundation in ultrabass tones of rooted depth. The basso profunda of Messaien are the critical foundations, the strong vertical pillars of an immense architecture which extends beyond performance walls. He scoured the deep and unreachable roots of worlds to hold his musical cathedrals together. Such majesty and grandeur of sound! Rich in the intelligence which flooded and made the world, the musical currents and the atmosphere of tones. Fluidic music and meaning.

The most fundamental signals which permeate this world are inaudible. They not only surpass our hearing, but they undergird our being. The most terrible weapon yet developed was the private property of one government. The mere existence of the atomic bomb was threat to nations whose motives were not entirely altruistic. Motivated, aggressive, and imperialistic, obtaining atomic bomb data was a priority for several nations. The only manner in which some nations obtained the secret was by stealing it. When Stalin’s science officers finally developed an atomic duplicate of the American bomb, pressure suddenly was placed upon every other European nation to achieve an equivalent or better device.

When one seeks to defend one’s borders, the consequences of releasing weapons of devastation to the world do not seem important. Weaponry is death-oriented by nature. But there are moral differences between weapons of defense and weapons of offense. Previous to this atomic proliferation, competing nations concentrated their weapons research on truly bizarre and equally deadly means for defending their national boundaries. A great variety of such deadly weapons were perfected in rapid succession. This included deadly variations and combinations of gas weaponry, pathogenic agents, and radiant weaponry. Stalin’s research teams investigated psychic powers as a possible means for destroying an enemy. Psychotronic warfare was developed among numerous groups, both private and national, with measurable success. Information on some simpler psychotronic weapons have recently been obtained through an increasing process of Soviet disclosure.

In truth, the larger the weaponry the less safe the national boundaries truly were. While the superpowers concentrated their weapons development programs on mass-destructive nuclear weaponry, others focussed on more practical conventions. The limited tactical warfare of small battlefields seemed a more immediate need. While developing their own atomic device, France sought defensive tactical weaponry on every possible technological front. Short range weapons would best defend against a conventional national assault. But other systems were also sought; systems which, though non-nuclear, were equally invincible. As the great Frankish Knight, Charles “the Hammer” Martel repelled ruthless invaders from the medieval east, so a new hammer would be sought to defend France against possible new enemies from the east. Even as Charles Martel arose from obscurity, so this strange new “hammer” would arise in equal obscurity.

GAVREAU

The central research theme of Dr. Vladimir Gavreau was the development of remote controlled automatons and robotic devices. To this end he assembled a group of scientists in 1957. The group, including Marcel Miane, Henri Saul, and Raymond Comdat, successfully developed a great variety of robotic devices for industrial and military purposes. In the course of developing mobile robots for use in battlefields and industrial fields, Dr. Gavreau and his staff made a strange and astounding observation which, not only interrupted their work, but became their major research theme.

Housed in a large concrete building, the entire group periodically experienced a disconcerting nausea which flooded the research facility. Day after day, for weeks at a time, the symptoms plagued the researchers. Called to inspect the situation, industrial examiners also fell victim to the malady. It was thought that the condition was caused by pathogens, a “building sickness”. No such agencies were ever biologically detected. Yet the condition prevailed. Research schedules now seriously interrupted, a complete examination of the building was called.

The researchers noticed that the mysterious nauseations ceased when certain laboratory windows were blocked. It was then assumed that “chemical gas emissions” of some kind were responsible for the malady, and so a thorough search of the building was undertaken. While no noxious fumes could be detected by any technical means, the source was finally traced by building engineers to an improperly installed motor-driven ventilator. The engineers at first thought that this motor might be emitting noxious fumes, possibly evaporated oils and lubricants. But no evaporated products were ever detected. It was found that the loosely poised low speed motor, poised in its cavernous duct of several stories, was developing “nauseating vibrations”.

The mystery magnified for Dr. Gavreau and his team, when they tried to measure the sound intensity and pitch. Failing to register any acoustic readings at all, the team doubted the assessment of the building engineers. Nevertheless, closing the windows blocked the sense of nausea. In a step of brilliant scientific reasoning, Gavreau and his colleagues realized that the sound with which they were dealing was so low in pitch that it could not register on any available microphonic detector. The data was costly to the crew.

They could not pursue the “search” for long time periods. During the very course of tracking the sound down, an accidental direct exposure rendered them all extremely ill for hours. When finally measured, it was found that a low intensity pitch of a fundamental 7 cycles per second was being produced. Furthermore, this infrasonic pitch was not one of great intensity either. It became obvious that the slow vibrating motor was activating an infrasonic resonant mode in the large concrete duct. Operating as the vibrating “tongue” of an immense “organ pipe”, the rattling motor produced nauseating infrasound. Coupled with the rest of the concrete building, a cavernous industrial enclosure, the vibrating air column formed a bizarre infrasonic “amplifier”.

Knowledge of this infrasonic configuration also explained why shutting the windows was mildly effective in “blocking the malady”. The windows altered the total resonant profile of the building, shifting the infrasonic pitch and intensity. Since this time, others have noted the personally damaging effects of such infrasonic generation in office buildings and industrial facilities. The nauseating effects of exposure to a low intensity natural or manmade infrasonic source is now well appreciated.

It has become a routine architectural procedure to seek out and alter any possible such resonant cavities. The sources often appear in older buildings, the result of construction rendered faulty by previous lack of this knowledge. All such “improper” architectural formats are modified by the additions of sound-blocking materials.

WHISTLES

Dr. Gavreau and his research team now carefully investigated the effects of their “infrasonic organ” at various intensity levels and pitch. Changing the spring tension on shock mounts which held the fan motor, it was possible to change the pitch. Various infrasonic resonances were established throughout the large research building. Shutting the windows blocked most of the symptoms. When the window was again opened, however weak as the source was made, the team felt the nauseating effects once again.

In the business of military research, Dr. Gavreau believed he had discovered a new and previously “unknown weapon” in these infrasounds. Aware of the natural explosives by which infrasonics are generated, Dr. Gavreau began to speculate on the application of infrasonics as a defense initiative. The haphazard explosive effects of natural infrasound in thunderclaps were quite effective in demonstrating what an artificial “thunder-maker” could do. But, how could a thunderclap be artificially generated in a compact system? These thoughts stimulated theoretical discussions on the possibility of producing coherent infrasound: an infrasonic “laser”.

The first devices Dr. Gavreau implemented were designed to imitate the “accident” which first made his research group aware of infrasonics. They designed real organ pipes of exceedingly great width and length. The first of these was six feet in diameter and seventy five feet long. These designs were tested outdoors, securely propped against protective sound-absorbent walls. The investigators stood at a great distance. Two forms of these infrasonic organ pipes were built. The first utilized a drive piston which pulsed the pipe output. The second utilized compressed air in a more conventional manner.

The main resonant frequency of these pipes occurred in the “range of death”, found to lie between three and seven cycles per second. These sounds could not be humanly heard, a distinct advantage for a defense system. The effects were felt however. The symptoms come on rapidly and unexpectedly, though the pipes were operating for a few seconds. Their pressure waves impacted against the entire body in a terrible and inescapable grip. The grip was a pressure which came in on one from all sides simultaneously, an envelope of death.

Next came the pain, dull infrasonic pressure against the eyes and ears. Then came a frightening manifestation on the material supports of the device itself. With sustained operation of the pipe, a sudden rumble rocked the area, nearly destroying the test building. Every pillar and joint of the massive structure bolted and moved. One of the technicians managed to ignore the pain enough to shut down the power supply.

These experiments with infrasonics were as dangerous as those early investigations of nuclear energy. Dr. Gavreau and his associates were dangerously ill for nearly a day after these preliminary tests. These maladies were sustained for hours after the device was turned off. Infrasonic assaults on the body are the more lethal because they come with dreadful silence. The eyesight of Dr. Gavreau and his fellow workers were affected for days. More dangerously were their internal organs affected: the heart, lungs, stomach, intestinal cavity were filled with continual painful spasms for an equal time period.

Musculature convulses, torques, and tears were the symptoms of infrasonic exposure. All the resonant body cavities absorbed the self-destructive acoustic energy, and would have been torn apart had the power not been extinguished at that precise moment. The effectiveness of infrasound as a defense weapon of frightening power having been demonstrated “to satisfaction”, more questions were asked. After this dreadful accident, approaching the equipment once again was almost a fearful exercise. How powerful could the output of an infrasonic device be raised before even the operating engineers were affected?

With greatest caution and respect for the power with which they worked, Dr. Gavreau began recalculating all of his design parameters. He had grossly misjudged the power released by the pipes. He had, in fact, greatly lowered those calculated outputs for diagnostic purposes. Never had he imagined that these figures were actually far too great in the world of infrasound!

Empirical data being the only way to determine how infrasonic energy correlated with both biological and material effect, the tests were again attempted with a miniature power supply. First, the dimensions of these devices had to be greatly reduced. Their extreme length was objectionable. In order to provide absolutely safe control of the deadly blasts, several emergency cutoff switches were provided. These responded to the radiated infrasonic pressure wave. the intensity could be absolutely limited by use of automated barometric switches.

In an attempt to achieve more compact and controllable infrasound generators, Dr. Gavreau designed and tested special horns and “whistles” of various volumes. These were each remarkably simple flat circular resonant cavities, having a side output duct. They were simply the large analogues of foghorns and police whistles. These flat forms were volumetrically reduced in successive design stages because it was found that their output was far too great. The infrasonic foghorns could produce a frightening two kilowatts of infrasonic energy, at a pitch of one hundred fifty cycles per second.

The flat “police whistles” were more easily designed to required specifications. Their overall characteristics were quite simple to determine, a mathematical formula being devised for the purpose. The whistle’s resonant pitch was found by dividing its diameter into a numerical constant of 51. Increasing the depth of the whistle effectively increased its amplitude. A whistle 1.3 meters in diameter produced an infrasonic pitch of 37 cycles per second. This form violently shook the walls of the entire laboratory complex, though its intensity was less than 2 watts infrasonic power.

DANGER

Not much amplitude is required for infrasound to produce physiological malady. Several researchers accidentally did themselves great harm when, by deliberate intent or accident, they succeeded in generating infrasonic vibrations. Tesla used vibrating platforms as an aid to vitality. He delighted in “toning the body” with vibrational platforms of his own design. Mounted on heavy rubber pads, these platforms were vibrated by simple motorized “eccentric” wheels.

Their mild use, for a minute, could be pleasantly stimulating. The effects invigorating the whole body for hours thereafter. Excessive use would produce grave illness however, excessive aggravations of the heart being the most dangerous aspect of the stimulation. The entire body “rang” for hours with an elevated heart rate and greatly stimulated blood pressure. The effects could be deadly.

In one historic instance, Samuel Clemens, Tesla’s close friend, refused to descend from the vibrating platform. Tesla was sorry he had allowed him to mount it. After repeated warnings, Tesla’s concern was drowned out by both the vibrating machine and Clemens’ jubilant exaltations and praises. Several more seconds and Clemens nearly soiled his white suit, the effects of infrasound being “duly recorded”.

Tesla often went to great lengths in describing the effects of infrasounds to newspaper reporters who, behind his back, scoffed at the notion that a “little sound” could effect such devastations. Yet, it was precisely with such a “little sound” that Tesla nearly brought down his laboratory on Houston Street. His compact infrasonic impulsers were terribly efficient. Tesla later designed and tested infrasonic impulse weapons capable of wrecking buildings and whole cities on command.

Walt Disney and his artists were once made seriously ill when a sound effect, intended for a short cartoon scene, was slowed down several times on a tape machine and amplified through a theater sound system. The original sound source was a soldering iron, whose buzzing 60 cycle tone was lowered five times to 12 cycles. This tone produced a lingering nausea in the crew which lasted for days.

Physiology seems to remain paralyzed by infrasound. Infrasound stimulates middle ear disruptions, ruining organismic equilibrium. The effect is like severe and prolonged seasickness. Infrasound immobilizes its victims. Restoration to normal vitality requires several hours, or even days. Exposure to mild infrasound intensities produces illness, but increased intensities result in death. Alarming responses to infrasound have been accurately recorded by military medical experts.

Tolerances from 40 to 100 cycles per second have been recorded by military examiners. The results are sobering ones. As infrasonic pitches decrease, the deadly symptoms increase. Altered cardiac rhythms, with pulse rates rising to 40 percent of their rest values, are the precursors to other pre-lethal states. Mild nausea, giddiness, skin flushing, and body tingling occur at 100 cycles per second. Vertigo, anxiety, extreme fatigue, throat pressure, and respiratory dysfunction follow. Coughing, severe sternal pressure, choking, excessive salivation, extreme swallowing pains, inability to breathe, headache, and abdominal pain occur between 60 and 73 cycles per second. Post exposure fatigue is marked. Certain subjects continued to cough for half an hour, while many continued the skin-flush manifestation for up to four hours.

Significant visual acuity decrements are noted when humans are exposed to infrasounds between 43 and 73 cycles per second. Intelligibility scores for persons exposed, fall to a low of 77 percent their normal scores. Spatial orientation becomes completely distorted. Muscular coordination and equilibrium falter considerably. Depressed manual dexterity and slurred speech have been noted before individuals blackout. Just before this point, a significant loss in intelligibility is noted.

The findings of Dr. Gavreau in the infrasonic range between 1 and 10 cycles per second are truly shocking. Lethal infrasonic pitch lies in the 7 cycle range. Small amplitude increases affect human behavior in this pitch range. Intellectual activity is first inhibited, blocked, and then destroyed. As the amplitude is increased, several disconcerting responses had been noted. These responses begin as complete neurological interference. The action of the medulla is physiologically blocked, its autonomic functions cease.

WATCHMEN

Infrasound clings to the ground, a phenomenon well known in the animal world. Female vocalizations and those of their young, take their traceable routes through the air. High pitched sounds are aerial in nature. This makes females and young natural targets for predators. Low pitched tones cling to the ground, being “guided” along the soil layers. Male vocalizations cannot be localized by predators. Male sounds “hug the ground”, diffusing out from their source. Some males rumble the ground with voice and hooves. These are communications signals which they alone comprehend.

The fact that the ground draws and guides low frequency tones is a remarkable gift to the animal kingdom, enhancing the survival of male leaders. When herds are attacked by predators, the males can continue to give guidance to their companions, while remaining completely “invisible” and elusive. Predators cannot locate the voices and rumblings of male leaders because their low pitched signals ar impossible to pinpoint. They are therefore also impossible to attack. Predators are often overtaken by the males who maintain their diffusive communications across and through the ground.

The same analogies would apply to an infrasonic defense system. First, infrasound does not lose its intensity when travelling very long distances across the ground. They remain at the same intensity as when released from their deadly sources. Also, because of the ground clinging effect, infrasonic sources cannot be located without special appliances. This would work well for those who used the weaponry of infrasound. But suppose some hostile force were themselves using infrasonics? Infrasonics are inaudible. The battle would be over before anyone knew it had begun. How would one know of an infrasonic attack? The first line of defense would therefore be the detection of the “unperceived enemy”. The development of an adequate infrasonic weapons systems would first require an infrasound detector.

Dr. Gavreau first concentrated on developing infallible infrasonic detectors for the personal safety of his operators as well as for eventual tactical deployment. He experimented with several designs which followed the arcane analogues of old wireless detectors. One such design used enclosed flames to detect infrasonic pitches. They were reminiscent of those flame detectors developed by Lee De Forest just before his invention of the triode. The flame detectors of Gavreau employed variable resonant cavities. Flame amplitudes shifted with specific infrasonic pitches. He could calibrate the infrasonic intensity as well as the pitch with these detectors. But, flames are dangerous and fickle, not being very reliable in battle.

Dr. Gavreau next experimented with enhanced mechanical barometers. These coupled large resonant cavities with very fine barometer tubes. They displayed great sensitivity. Steady increases in barometric pressure were registered when large cavity bellows were compressed by infrasounds. The sensitivity of these barometers increased as the bellows capacity was increased. They were adequate, but frail.

Another embodiment resembled the early mechanical television designs of John Logie Baird. It utilized large tympani skins, mirrors, lights, and photocells. A mirror was fastened to the tympanum. A light beam flickered when infrasound struck the mirror. The photocell recorded these flickers as an electrical signal. This detector system was very reliable.

By far, the most advanced detectors which gavreau designed and tested utilized an electrolytic process. In this analogue of systems developed by Fessenden to measure faint wireless signals, chemical solutions and fine wirepoint electrical contacts were used. Chemical solutions, separated by an osmotic barrier, were forced to migrate through the barriers whenever infrasound traversed the system. This chemical mixture was then measured as an increased electrical conductivity in a sensitive galvanometer. This system was reliable and accurate. All of these systems suffered from one possibility. The offensive use of an incredible infrasonic amplitude would burst them into vapor.

ARMOR

Claims were issued by french authorities, stating that Dr. Gavreau was not developing weapons at all. Several patents, however, betray this conspicuous smoke-screen. While it is impossible to retrieve the actual patents for the infrasonic generators, Dr. Gavreau is credited with extensive development of “infrasonic armor”. Why would he “waste” such time and expense if not for an anti-weapons program?

Thus use of infrasonic weaponry necessitates the development and implementation of infrasonic shields. Dr. Gavreau spent more time developing infrasonic shields than on developing efficient infrasonic horns. Infrasound could not adequately be blocked, as Dr. Gavreau discovered early in his research. Infrasonic devices require extremely large baffles.

Furthermore, no one would dare initiate an infrasonic barrage on any invasive force without adequate protection. Infrasonic horns can project their sounds in a given direction, but natural environments “leak” portions of the sound in all directions. Infrasounds saturate their generators, flooding and permeating their sources in a few seconds. They “work their way back” toward those who dispatch their deadly signals. Infrasounds “hug the ground” and spread around their sources. Unfortunately, those who would release infrasonic energy would themselves be slaughtered in the very act.

The first method of Gavreau involves the conversion of infrasound into successively higher pitches, until the infrasonic pitch is “lost”. This was achieved in his passive “structural” method, an enormous layered series of baffles and resonant cavities. This form is “passive” since it merely stands and waits for infrasonic barrages, absorbing and converting them into harmless audible tones.

The second method of Gavreau is more active and “aggressive”. It actively engages and nullifies any offensive infrasonic power. The nullifier uses a well known physical principle for its operation. As an “active” shield, it transmits tones whose opposing wavefronts destructively interfere with incoming infrasound. Infrasonic attacks are nullified, or at least brought to much weaker levels.

This method requires high speed detection and response systems. The process involves determination of an attack pitch, generation of the same, and projection of the pitch “out of phase”. The active nullifier method is not completely accurate or protective by any means. A highly modulated, mobile infrasonic source would be nearly impossible to successfully neutralize without extremely sophisticated electronics.

But an elegantly simple approach was imagined, one which would not require the defender to be exposed to his own infrasonic projections. While fixated on the old notion of gun installations and stations, Gavreau and the team had momentarily forgotten their first research endeavor. Robotics!

THE HAMMER

Let us recall that Dr. Gavreau and his team of pioneers were in the business of robotics. They developed industrial and military automaton systems. How difficult would it have been to couple his newfound weaponry with robotic applications? Dr. Gavreau combined the organ pipe and whistle format. The device was housed in a block of concrete. It was less than a cubic meter in volume. The primary whistle was poised within its interior. At its flared opening were placed several resonant pipes. The device was operated by highly compressed air. Its output was frightful. It was capable, in a conventional engagement, of utterly destroying an aggressor.

This infrasound whistle design was once sealed in an 880 pound concrete pier for tests, a concrete baffle placed over its projective end. Even with these precautions, the device succeeded in absolutely shaking a fan-shaped portion of Marseille. It broke through its supportive concrete pier and destroyed the baffle covering in an instant. Macabre. No sound was ever heard.

This design demonstrated great pitch selectivity, power, and directivity. In this last feature, Gavreau and his team achieved a safety factor of greatest value. Infrasonic defensive armaments could now be safely directed away from the operators against any foe. This weapon was a remarkably compact and efficient device. Its efficiency was gauged by the destructive output and the weapon volume.

A later embodiment of this terror disclosed another compact cube. The infrasonic whistle was presumably housed therein. Proceeding from the front plate were some sixty pipes, flared horns aimed in deadly forward array. It was said that this device alone, remotely guided into an arranged artificial battlefield, burst heavy battlements and tank interiors open with a hideous effortlessness. In addition, several other more frightening and unmentionable disruptions were observed with equal effectiveness. In each, not a sound was ever heard.

The device was mounted and mobilized. A robotic vehicle. Powered by diesel engines or compressed gas, the almost insignificant unit would be a bizarre foe for an army to engage. Preliminary experiments had proven the extreme danger of loosing infrasonic power among Gavreau and his workers. Without automatic remote control mechanisms each technician would succumb to the deadly sound and die, while the machine kept broadcasting its deadly sound. As defensive weaponry, such a device would be terrible and effective. The system would be a true deterrent for those who would be foolish enough to attempt ground assault on any nation so armed. Armies would fall flat. Once the infrasonic horns were unleashed against the foe, the battle would not even begin.

Such a war engine would be impossible to locate. None who saw its size would believe it to contain such a lethal power. Most would overlook the device completely. A flood of such devices, each emanating a peculiar highly modulated blend of infrasound, would be an unstoppable wall. Robotic tanks equipped with infrasonic generators could sweep an area with deadly infrasound, destroying all opponents to within a five mile radius. These terrible infrasonic weapons could easily be secured in drone jets, where aerial assaults could quickly and methodically waste any offensive approaching army.

Deterring would-be aerial attackers could be equally devastating for the offenders. Infrasonic beacons could sweep and scan the skies with a deadly accuracy. Infrasound passes through all matter with equal effectiveness, seeking out offenders with deadly consequence. The intensities which the Gavreau devices effectively broadcast into the environment are frightening. In these devices we see the perfection of phenomena which never naturally occur in such dangerous intensities. This is why these weapons must be deployed by remote control, operating as automatons at great distances from their operators.

Weapons are made to defend, not to offend. In Gavreau’s own words: “There does not exist complete protection against infrasound. It is not absorbed by ordinary matter, walls and chambers do not suffice to arrest it”. And so, once again, we stand at the cross-roads. We are called, summoned to appear before two pathways. On the one, we hear Messaien and the musical messages of peace. On the other, Gavreau and the musical messages of war. And again we choose. And again we must choose. Whose music will it be?

Related articles:

<a
